The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
The Warkworth area
Warkworth is a pretty village which lies in the loop of the River Coquet on the Heritage Coast. The village is overshadowed by the impressive ruins of its 12th century castle, which the Percy Family took over in 1332. The Percys also own Alnwick Castle, which is most famous as the location of Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films. Warkworth offers a superb choice of galleries, antique shops, a village shop/post office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops, and the main street is characterised by its beautiful Georgian and early Victorian houses. The village has a pretty stretch of sandy beach and a 9 hole 'pay and play' golf course. Hadrian's Wall, Holy Island, the Farne Islands, Bamburgh Castle, more beaches and the Alnwick Garden with its remarkable tree house and water cascade are all within touring distance.

,The enclosed garden for the dogs. It was private, and we was never bothered by the owners. The area was very good for getting to places. Smashing country park for dog walks 5 mins up road.
