Visitors to the Warkworth and Ambleside area and in particular train enthusiasts, looking for holiday cottages in Northumbria, may find Warkworth Railway Station, a Grade II listed building, where the waiting rooms have been converted into living accommodation, the ideal place to stay. The Station dates back to 1874 and although it is no longer in use, the track that runs past it, is still in use by East Coast mainline trains. What was once the station platform is now a well equipped, contemporary kitchen and the shower room which is conveniently en-suite to the stylish bedroom fitted with a luxurious king-size brass bed. The station waiting rooms which are said to have been used by the Duke of Northumberland have been converted into what are now the lounge and bedroom. The enclosed patio and scented garden area of one of Northumbrian cottages more unique properties, are the perfect place to enjoy a quiet drink in the evenings and discuss plans for the following day.

Northern England region

The northerly county of Northumberland is a hidden gem of totally unspoilt countryside and wonderful long stretches of pristine sandy beaches.
If you want to stretch your legs and breathe in clean country air this is the place for you, with miles of wide open spaces and magnificent views. The county has three distinct sub regions; a coastline stretching some forty miles with quiet sandy beaches and pretty coastal harbour villages. Inland visitors will find dramatic rolling moorland and forests, much of which is National Park and to the south of the region is the famous Hadrian's Wall which runs coast to coast and is now a World Heritage Site.
Apart from Northumberland's natural assets the county is steeped in history and has had a turbulent past which is characterised by more than its fair share of castles and ancient hill forts, some of which were built to repel Viking invaders. It was also the scene of the border wars and conflicts between the English and Scots in the 14th-16th century.

There is the added advantage of the proximity of this accommodation to Warkworth, a picturesque village at the base of a hill, topped by one of the largest 15th Century castles in Northern England and the beach. Boating and fishing trips to Coquet Island can be arranged from Amble just a few miles from Warkworth. The 20 mile coastline has been designated a Heritage Coastline and area of outstanding beauty, the incredible views and amazing sand dunes add to the character of the area. The Coquet River that runs around the village teems with wildlife such as heron and other migratory birds.
