North Mill's garden is shared by the owner and is surrounded by water. It is mainly lawn with trees and shrubs. There are walks along the towpath of the river and across the water meadows into the countryside. The railway station, main line to Waterloo, is a 5 minute walk and the Wareham bypass is across the water meadows. This makes Wareham a quiet little town but with 2 supermarkets, 2 delis, 6 pubs, little shops and various restaurants of differing quality!

The West Country region

Dorset is becoming rather well known now and you do not just pass it by on the route to Devon and Cornwall. But there is so much to do and see in this small county from lovely sandy beaches, rocky coves, seemingly undiscovered villages and little country lanes leading to undiscovered places.

The famous places like Corfe Castle, Studland beach, Worth Matravers, Lulworth Cove are all within easy distance of the mill but the interior of Dorset is well worth a visit and trips to Dorchester, Sherborne, Weymouth, Chesil Beach, Lyme Regis etc. are a must for anyone wanting to discover the delights of this county.

Wareham

Wareham is situated between 2 rivers, the Piddle and the Frome and is surrounded by the Saxon Walls, an ancient monument and well worth the walk around. It is full of history and the museum is a great visit. Market days are Thursday and Saturday and every 2 weeks there is a furniture and artefacts auction in the East Street salerooms.

There is an annual carnival in August and the town is closed for the parade. Corfe Castle is a short drive away and the Swanage Railway puts on steam trains all year round and soon the steam is coming back to Wareham. You will then be able to 'bucket and spade it' all the way to Swanage and leave the car behind.

"serious cleaning required"

Firstly to say the owner Sally was helpful and personable. The cottage is idyllically set by a strong tidal river and although wild swimming is in the description, I feel this would be extremely da… More

I was slightly dismayed by these comments as I really put myself out to help with information etc. The wild swimming is fantastic and the next family were in the river every day. The tenant's comments were totally subjective. It is not a "strong tidal river' - it is a shallow mill race. The tea and coffee caddies are antiques! Most guests like to have some condiments left in the house so they don't have to buy new every time. After they left I did find a cobweb and some dust after a very windy week. It is a very old house. It was bin day when I went in to change the liner and the French windows were open so I could mow the lawn via the plug just inside the door. I take note of the dishcloths and have replaced them and have got a fire blanket. The welcome pack includes a homemade cake, wine, milk, bread, fresh eggs etc. What more did these tenants want?

""Best of British!""

Forget the weather and just induldge in this oh so British setting by the river. The 800 year old building just oozes characture and charm with a modicum of modern day conveniences. The garden with friendly chickens supplying the eggs, the sea trout jumping in the river along with the local swans, the abundant flora and superb hospitality of Sally the owner made this such a special holiday.

"Home From Home - with extras!"

With Sally's hospitality, the peaceful location and comfort of North Mill, we had a perfect relaxing holiday.
Lots of nature to observe; chickens in the garden, fish in the river, all sorts of birds including a flash of kingfishers darting about, cows in the field and the odd friendly local too!
So peaceful and traquil - perfik!

"A home away from home"

From start to finish, our stay at North Mill was perfect. The house is beautiful, well appointed with all comforts and in a great location. The landlady is a fount of knowledge on the area, very helpful and even offered to baby sit our 18 month old.

"Warm welcome in a historic watermill"

An old watermill at the northern end of the nice town of Wareham with typical (at least what we foreigners think) english furniture. Beside a small river with swans and ducks, there is a very nice garden with chicken.
The owner was very kind an helpful in any situation. She surprised us with flowers and great home made jams. The fridge was filled!
