The West Country region

The wider Purbeck area is incredible - a geologically diverse peninsula hugging the southern shores of Poole harbour. Split down the middle by the chalk ridge which once joined the Needles and the white cliffs of Dover, Purbeck really has a lot to offer for wildlife, walking, enjoying the sea and cycling.

The varied geology is celebrated by the start of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast at Old Harry Rocks. Corfe Castle is 10 minutes from the Farm and stands proud between the chalk downland ridgeway. Studland Beach is 20 minutes along the lovely Studland road with its views across the heathland and Poole Harbour - not forgetting Brownsea Island. Poole Harbour is great for sailing and watersports and in the winter, the bird watching is fantastic with the harbour regularly supporting nearly 30,000 wintering birds feeding on the mudflats. Purbeck is a special place for wildlife - it has extensive peaceful heathland with nightjar, Dartford warbler and woodlark all breeding (very close to the farm).

The chalk downland is superb for butterflies and flowers and then there is the coast! The Purbeck and wider Dorset coastline is beautiful - rugged and wild in places for adventure and calm and sandy in others - great for relaxing and swimming. Studland - managed by the National Trust, is the jewel in the crown of beaches but there are many more including Swanage, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and all the secret spots in between. The rock climbing is particularly good too! There are lots of woodland areas for shady walks - the Rempstone Forest and Wareham Forest provide great areas for gentle cycling on tracks.

Wareham

The farm is set back but located on the corner of two very beautiful roads - Grange Road leads towards lovely coastal sites of Worbarrow Bay and Kimmeridge and on to Corfe Castle in one direction and Lulworth Castle in the other. Holme lane meanders along the Frome Valley towards Wool - great for cycling, blackberry picking, a visit to the farm shop and seasonal PYO.

To the north of the farm is the village of Stoborough (10 min walk) with a shop, lovely local pub, children's play area and lots of lovely walks with the magical RSPB Nature Reserve close-by at Arne. Across the causeway (10 min walk from Stoborough) is the traditional market town of Wareham with markets on Thursday and Saturday. Other highlights include the Salt Pig 'urban farm shop' - amazing local food (open daily and thu-sat evenings); the Rex Cinema - a traditional, beautiful volunteer run cinema where you can relax with a glass of wine and some Purbeck Ice Cream; the historic Wareham Walls and the quay side - great for relaxing with a local beer and watching the boats.

"Ideal country getaway for those looking for a personal, cosy and green establishment"

Lovely family run business offering a decent sized and attractive flat. It seems newly decorated with tasteful furnishings and a comfortable bed. Surroundings are green, watery and animal friendly. The beach is close but you will need a car to get to the quintessential towns of Wareham and Corfe, and to access the rest of idyllic Purbeck. If you cycle, no need for a car and the surroundings are perfect for it. Katie and Jon offer a friendly service and they'll do anything to accommodate your personal wishes.
