THE BOATHOUSE is a stylish detached one-bedroomed two-storey dwelling sitting in the grounds of Quayside on the banks of the magnificent River Deben at Waldringfield. This is one of two holiday cottages that sits in the grounds of Quayside - the other is QUAYSIDE COTTAGE (also see Quayside Cottage at Quayside on the River Deben).
We have our own quay, making it ideal for boating (rowing boat available) and fishing (in particular sea bass during the summer).
This is a tranquil and picturesque coastal village, with a keen sailing community and boatyard where river cruises operate May to September, Arts and Crafts Studio with resident artist providing art lessons on request, beachfront pub dining (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and an excellent 18-hole golf course.
There are three properties in the grounds of Quayside: two stylish detached holiday cottages and the main residence occupied by us, Ged and Donna Morgan and our son Stuart. Each property has its own parking area and bicycle storage within the grounds, with easy access via electric gate, and riverfront seating.
Both cottages are lovingly cared for and finished to a high standard (past winner of 'Best Self-Catering Holiday of the Year' voted by East of England Tourism).
Whichever you choose, enjoy:
- Waterfront seating overlooking the stunning River Deben
- Our own quay where you have access to fish and secure a small boat (or use ours - rowing boat provided)

- Wireless broadband connection
The village also has much to offer...:
- Beachfront pub dining (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- River cruises and sailing club
- Arts and Crafts Studio (art lessons available)
- Excellent 18-hole golf course
- Endless coastal walks and cycle routes
All set in a Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - a paradise for birdwatchers - fishermen - sailors - golfers - cyclists - walkers.

About this location
The East Anglia region
Affectionately known as 'the sunshine coast', Suffolk is reputedly the dryest county in England. Famous for Adnams local ale, friendly farmshops selling local produce and breathtaking rural scenery from the olde english charm of Lavenham in the heart of the county, out to the coastal beauty of Southwold, Aldeburgh, Felixstowe and the river estuaries leading to Orford, Woodbridge, Ipswich are just a few to mention.
This is a relaxed pace of life which can be contrasted with the buzz of London by train in just an hour.
Places of interest: Sutton Hoo, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, Snape, Southwold, Orford, Minsmere, Walberswick, Flatford and Dedham (Constable Country), Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge.
London - 1 hour by train
The market town of Woodbridge sits on the banks of the River Deben, once the only transport route by sailing barge to trade goods. Today's barges cruise the river for pleasure and are a sight to behold.
The River Deben is one of the finest estuaries to shape this Suffolk coastline. Approximately 9 miles of navigable water and in parts up to half a mile wide. Quayside sits on the banks of the river, in the village of Waldringfield which is about mid way, on the west bank.
This is a tranquil and picturesque coastal village, with a keen sailing community and boatyard where river cruises operate May to September, Arts and Crafts Studio with resident artist providing art lessons on request and beachfront pub dining (breakfast, lunch, dinner). We have an unusually high number of quality golf courses a short drive from your cottage, plus our own excellent 18-hole course here in the village. Newbourne Farm Shop and The Fox Inn are just a couple of miles away in the next village and a short drive to the market town of Woodbridge where you will be spoilt for choice with more excellent pub food.
The area is famously known for Sutton Hoo, where England's oldest history (dating over 1300 years) was unearthed with the discovery of the ship burial of an anglo-saxon warrior king and his treasures.
Today these waters are alive with sails delivering the grandest of sailing barges to the most modest of fishing smacks.
At Quayside the shore is yours to lap up the atmosphere. You may choose to take to the water, fish from the quay, or just sit and be entertained.
Look out for the seals!

"Wonderful self catering accommodation."
Just returned from a short break at The Boathouse. This has got to be the best self catering accommodation we have stayed in.After a very warm welcome from Donna we settled into the Boathouse which is very well equipt with everything you could want and a welcome pack of milk, wines, chocolates, cake and lots of useful information on the surrounding area.
Very peaceful location by the river and we felt really at home for a few days.
Would highly recommend to anyone and we chose The Boathouse after reading the great reviews. If you book you will not be disappointed.
Thank you so much, Judith. What a really kind review. It was great to meet you and we will look forward to seeing you again.
Very best wishes,
Donna and Ged

""Simply the best""
I cannot fault the Boathouse in any respect. With an excellent foodie pub a few steps away it is like having a suite in a five star hotel. Except that you are met on arrival by the friendly owners who have put a lot of care and imagination into providing quality accommodation of character. Superbly equipped, it is spacious and quietly situated with private access through the garden to the banks of the River Deben.
Dear Ron and Barbara, thank you so much for such a kind review. It was a pleasure to meet you and we will hope to see you again some time.
Best wishes,Donna and Ged

Thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Boathouse which was comfortable and extremely well equiped. The location is perfect for exploring this beautiful area of Suffolk. The river is gorgeous. It was a pity we could not see it from the property but it was easily accessed through shared garden. The owners were very friendly, helpful and run their holiday lets with attention to detail.
