The East Anglia region
Bacton is situated on the North Norfolk Coast, five miles east of Mundesley, with Cromer, Sheringham, Norwich, Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads all within easy reach.
Mundesley is a lovely coastal village with a good range of independent shops and tea rooms - Children and Adults alike love the Beach Cafe (seasonal) just up from the beach, dogs welcome too.
The North Norfolk Coastline is a beautiful stretch of award winning sandy beaches, walkers and bird watchers will enjoy the Coastal Path and the Salt Marshes at Cley. Nearby to Cley is Blakeney; take a boat and visit the seal colony.
Ten miles from Bacton lies Cromer; famous for its Pier, Crabs and two week long Carnival in August. What better way to spend a day than eating crab sandwiches after a morning "crabbing" from the Pier?.
For visitors arriving in Springtime, Sheringham Park has a superb Rhododendron Walk with sea and countryside views thrown in. Blickling Hall near Alysham is famous for its carpet of bluebells and its always lovely to pop in to the pub next door to sit by the fire!. The old fashioned Market Town of Alysham holds twice weekly markets in the town square specialising in local food producers and nearby the Georgian Town of Holt is famous for its quaint coffee shops (the standard is high!). Holt is fantastic at Christmas time when the shops are decked out in tiny, white lights; the local Carr Stone making them look just like Gingerbread Houses!
The Norfolk Broads (originally formed by peat excavations) are only a fifteen minute drive away from Bacton. Hire a boat for the afternoon, fish from the river bank or just sit and watch the swans at Wroxham (be sure to pop in to Roys of Wroxham, the largest Family owned Department Store in the country, bargins to be had!). If visiting in August, the Chilli Festival at Felbrigg Hall is a fun, free event for all ages.
Head south and 25 miles from Bacton is the Seaside Town of Great Yarmouth. So many things to do including; Horse and Greyhound Racing, Stock Cars, The famous 'Golden Mile' of sandy beach, amusement arcades, Crazy Golf, Beach Donkeys and Horse and Carriage Rides. The Victorian 'Venetian Waterways at the north of the town offers a genteel boat ride or a stroll around the gardens. Great Yarmouth has lots of interesting museums and uniquely, the Yarmouth 'Rows' leading from the Market Place to the river Yare.
The city of Norwich, a 25 mile drive (or 25 minutes by Train from North Walsham) has a Norman Castle at its centre and fascinating Medieval Cobbled Streets near the beautiful Catherdral. There are some great shopping opportunities in Norwich with two Malls and a Traditional Market.
A guide and maps of the region are available in the house.
Year round amenities located in Bacton and Walcott; (the seafront) all within walking distance from the cottage include; two Pubs, two Restaurants including a Chinese, two well stocked Shops, Post Office, two Fish and Chip Shops (always better by the sea!) and numerous lovely Cafes.
For Children there is a well equipped Playing Field and a lovely Ice Cream Parlour and of course there is the beach! Pack a picnic, grab the flask and deck chairs and enjoy a traditional Seaside Holiday on the beach (not far to pop back when you need something!).
For the anglers, why not bring your sea fishing rod and catch your supper fifty metres from your front door!
The cottage is so close to the sea you can watch the waves breaking on the beach whilst enjoying a coffee all within ten minutes of waking up, fantastic!
Bacton Woods is just three miles away and offers superb Woodland Walks for Adults, Children and especially popular with Dogs!.
Bacton is a lovely traditional, unspoilt, seaside village with something to offer all year round. Our Children love sitting on the sea wall eating a portion of chips, its the simple things!
