The Penthouse is set in a large manor house next to the estuary and within minutes walk of the beach and if you would like an 'enid blyton' holiday then Walberswick is the place to be. Walking and cycling take precedence over cars and life is very laid back here. Our apartment is within walking distance of two pubs serving good food and the village green is a hub of excitement with its tea and gift shops and swings for the little ones. The Crabbing World championships take place here every year and everyone is encouraged to practice all year round - just bring your string, fat and bucket - a great time for all.

You can walk or cycle to Southwold and to cut your journey down for a small fee you can be rowed across the estuary. Southwold harbour offers great fish and chips and stalls to buy the freshest of fresh fish.

There are many lovely walks and we are surrounded by marshes and bird santuaries and walkable to Dunwich, the village lost to the sea.

The apartment is furnished and equipped to a high standard. There is a master bedroom with en suite and king size bed. Two twin bedrooms, one with Southwold lighthouse framed as its view and these share a bathroom with shower. The large living area is open plan with the dining area and well equipped kitchen. The view from the windows is of the estuary across to Southwold and Reydon.

The East Anglia region

Big Blue skies , beautiful beaches, unspoilt countryside, quaint traditional towns and villages, historic sites and fairly flat countryside for walking and cycling sums up East Anglia and explains why Suffolk is a popular holiday destination. The lovely quaint towns of Walberswick, Southwold, Aldeburgh, Lavenham and Felixstowe are forever popular with visitors and locals alike. The cities of Ipswich and Norwich are well worth a visit.

Norwich has a beautiful cathedral, Castle and many museums and is considered one of the top 5 places in the country to shop with its many independant shops in cobbled lanes aswell as the expansive areas of high street shops and good quality department stores including John Lewis and House of Fraser - a shoppers paradise! It also has many good quality restaurants and cafe bars, two cinema complexes and plenty of nightlife.

Ipswich is home to twelve medieval churches, while its Tudor Christchurch Mansion boasts the best collection of Constable and Gainsborough works outside London. Other cultural attractions include the Maltings Concert Hall at Snape, famous for its Benjamin Britten connections and venue for the annual Aldeburgh Festival.

Suffolk is a great place for a break any time of the year, and just the place for a family beach holiday. There are countless activities to amaze and keep the kids amused whatever the weather. You decide what you want from a day on the beach to visit the many museums and historic sites. The area boasts a huge collection or art galleries, museums, historical buildings, wildlife parks, craft centres, antique shops in addition to specialist visitor attractions and sports facilities


Walberswick is considered a hidden jem of Suffolk and is known as the home of the world crabbing championships in August. Children and adults fill the bridges holding a piece of string and bait and try to catch the crabs in the estuary. The beach is long and expansive and the surrounding marshes make for good walking.

Walberswick has two good pubs both serving good food and on the village green there are gift shops and tea rooms along with swings for the little ones and is always a hub of excitement.

The varied architecture of Walberswick provides to the charm and the many footpaths provide a different walk

every time and the scenery is often breathtaking.

You can see Southwold, across the estuary and this can be reached either by being rowed across or walking and taking Baileys bridge - either way quite an experience. Southwold is a quaint town with many interesting shops and restaurants and a stylish pier, well worth a visit. The beach is adorned by colourful beach huts and a good sandy beach. Lots to do.

"Take your own mattress"

Great location, nice facilities but the wortst bed we have ever slept in. The double bed was very uncomfortable, you can feel the springs and is very poor quality. You would expect better for this p… More

I am saddened to receive this review as we wish all our clients to have a pleasant experience with us and as 75% of our clients are return bookings I think this is usually the case. I apologise if the client thought I was rude to him but I was stating that the mattress was not worn or of a cheap quality and I hadn't had any other complaints and as this is our own holiday home we also sleep very comfortably on it and that I was sorry that they may have found it uncomfortable but everyone sleeps differently and beds can be very personal for comfort. Unfortunately he only rang me after they left and therefore there was nothing I could do to rectify. We have since stayed at the Penthouse and checked over for protruding springs but couldn't find any and in fact slept very well. As regards to Wifi, at present we do not have it installed as we enjoy the 'get away from it all' approach of Walberswick but we are looking into installation for guests that can't live without it.

Thank you for your comments they are greatly appreciated as we work hard to keep The Penthouse clean, well maintained and comfortable for each stay and was upset and at a loss to understand the previous reviewer. We are looking into whether it is feasible for us to install wifi.

"Lovely little Gem."

Nice location and the penthouse was a lovely little gem. Just felt let down as it
needed some very loving TLC. It was the end of the season but no excuse for standards to slip. Very good village pub.
