Penweir cottage was built in 1885 and retains many original features, including wooden beams, a wood-burning stove and an open fire that complements the central heating. It has been recently renovated to make the cottage light and airy with wood flooring and a neutral décor.
The living room is pleasantly arranged with 2 really comfy sofas and 2 armchairs, a dining area and padded window seating for your gaze to linger on the south facing garden. The kitchen is well equipped for eating in, with a dishwasher, microwave, hob/oven, toaster and proper coffee with a Nespresso machine. Upstairs there is an elegantly decorated bedroom, housing a king size wooden sleigh bed with feather pillows and duvet and has an en-suite shower room.
A second bedroom has 2 single beds with a third bed available, or it can be made into a 6 foot king size bed. Next to the bedroom is a large bathroom, beautifully decorated and has a separate power shower.
in the garden we have converted the barn into additional accommodation, light and airy with double bedroom king size or 2 singles), shower room, kitchenette and living area. Suit teenagers, parents accompanying the family, 2 families or friends.
|Further details outdoors|
Outside, the south facing garden is pleasantly planted with mature shrubs and flower border, it has plenty of seating and is great for children to play hide and seek! In addition, to the West of the garden is a large park with swings, etc. The 2'6”hedge provides the opportunity to watch your little ones playing while enjoying a glass of wine or a cup of tea sitting on the patio. There is parking to the front of the house.
Penweir Cottage is an ideal base for active summer holidays and a warm and peaceful home from home during the winter months.
In total we can now accommodate 8 people in 3 bedrooms and one properly upholstered sofa bed in the converted barn. Please contact me for prices for renting the barn. The barn will never be rented separately to the cottage. You will always have exclusive use.
The West Country region
Cornwall has something to offer everyone. Originally reliant on it's fishing and mining industry there is now a diverse range of sites and attractions for young and old, active and amblers! You can travel the length of the county in an hour, so whether you prefer the vibrant and arty St.Ives, peaceful fishing villages, tourist attractions of Land's End, St Michael's Mount and the activity parks, Eden Project or Lost Gardens of Heligan, or cultural sites of Minack Theatre at Porthcurno or the many travelling theatres, you are never far away. St Mabyn is ideally positioned to reach many of the beautiful beaches on North and South Coast of Cornwall. It is about 7 miles from the renowned north coast surfing beach of Polzeath, the sailing and waterski centres at Rock and the delightful fishing village of Port Isaac. Within 15 minutes you can be in Padstow with 7 beaches in close proximity.
They are Trevone Bay, Harlyn Bay, Mother Ivy’s Bay, Boobies Bay, Constantine Bay, Treyarnon Bay and Porthcothan Bay, all of which offer a different coastal experience. Padstow also offers a great selection of shops and of course it is the foodie capital of Cornwall with all the Rick Stein restaurants, the Great British menu winner Paul Ainsworth and the great value, vibrant pizza and pasta restaurant Rojanos.
St. Mabyn is well placed to explore miles of remote untamed moorland and windswept rocky tors – just 10 minutes from the two highest peaks in Cornwall, Rough Tor and Brown Willy. Take a walk up either and on a fine day you will see both North and South Cornish coasts.
The slopes of Rough Tor house an important Bronze Age settlement and is the site of a Bronze Age village in the area. are a stone's throw from the coast and the bustling town of Wadebridge and the Camel Estuary.
Within 3 miles there are a handful of really good food pubs.
Surfing at Polzeath, wind surfing or children’s swimming at Daymer Bay, sailing and waterskiing at Rock, cycling the Camel Trail or walking the coastal path is all within 15 minutes drive.
On the outskirts of the village is Pencarrow House. Open to the public and particularly dog friendly, Pencarrow has been the much-loved home of the Molesworth-St Aubyns for 500 years. It is anything but a museum. Family photos, children’s toys and pet dogs bring this Cornish mansion alive and allow you a glimpse of what it’s like to live surrounded by so much history. It’s a real family home, with magnificent gardens, tea shop and fruit sales in season. You can even let your dogs off a lead.
Golfers are well catered for with a handful of courses within a 20 minute drive, including the renowned links course, St.Enodoc, ranked 55th in the world and certainly one of the finest golf courses in the South West. Along with the demanding course, it has unrivalled estuary and sea views. Within walking distance of the cottage is St.Kew golf course, and Roserrow is a short drive towards the North coast.

"A welcoming, well equipped cottage in a great Cornish village, close to many attractions and beautiful places!"
We went to stay at Penweir for a long weekend in May 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was clean, beautifully refurbished, warm and welcoming, with a nice touch of fresh scones and jam as a welcome pack. We took our elderly mothers with us as a birthday treat and they loved the log burner in the evenings and the local pub food. We explored the village and then went to the Eden project and Padstow, eating at Rick Stein's Petroc's Bistro on the Saturday evening. A really memorable, relaxing holiday. Thank you very much!

Penweir Cottage is a fantastic place from which to explore Cornwall. It's so comfortable, beautifully decorated & extremely well equipped. We returned for Easter for the second year running & if anything it has improved now that the owners have renovated the barn - great for older kids to have a bit of space. St Mabyn itself has also improved with new owners in the pub (just 100 yards away) who do a fantastic 3 course Sunday roast for just £15. If you want to be slightly away from the crowds, but still within easy reach of all the area's attractions, Penweir cannot be beaten.
Lovely to know you enjoyed your second holiday to Penweir Cottage as much if not more and quite agree the new pub owners are a delight and it's great to have such a good food and drink pitstop within walking distance.

The cottage is beautiful and very clean. The accommodation is spacious and the interior décor is lovely. The owners have thought of everything, even down to a basket of logs for the wood burner.
This is our second visit and we will definitely be booking again. We have told all our friends and family and would not hesitate to recommend a stay here.
The village is in a great location for Rock and Padstow and the local pub food is excellent.
Well worth a visit to relax and recharge.
Thank you so much for your review and so glad to hear you loved Penweir as much 2nd time round. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Thanks, Naomi

"Home from Home - a great place to stay"
We have just returned from a great week at Penweir Cottage and were so sad to leave. The village is lovely and quiet but with everything you need at the local post office/shop and a welcoming pub 2 mins away with good food (and music on the Saturday we visited). Our 2 boys (14 and 11) loved the park, which can be seen directly from the garden where we were able to sit with our BBQ and glass of wine whilst keeping them in sight. All rooms are cosy and nicely finished and although we were blessed with excellent weather (and so were out most of the time) it would be an equally cosy place to stay in and spend a rainy day - wifi connection also useful.
We regularly stay self catering and would say that Penweir is definitely one of the nicest and well equipped places we have tried.
Good things to try locally:
Camel Trail bike route (flat and quite easy and plenty of places to pre-book cycle hire) from Wadebridge to Padstow (we also had time to take rtn ferry in Padstow to Rock across the estuary where we had a lovely lunch in the Rock Inn before cycling back).
Water sports at Harlyn Bay - we tried sea kayaks - good fun for older children and adults.
Boscastle (very pretty) and Tintagel (castle and walk) which you can see in one day if you start relatively early.
Port Isaac - busy as expected but we found parking places quickly in the car park bet. Port issac and Port Gaverne - from there a pretty little walk back down into Port Isaac (not for elderly or infirm perhaps). Good beach for stone skimming or crabing when tide is not too high.

"A beautiful cottage within cornwall."
My family and I have recently returned from our week stay at Penweir cottage. The cottage is so lovely and relaxing and i was very sad when it was time to leave. The cottage is beautifully decorated with a large lounge and dining table with open fires, a well equipped kitchen and upstairs has a family bathroom , a twin bedroom and a master bedroom with sleigh bed and en-suite. I was going to bed early because the bed was so comfortable, The views are stunning, with the church and park next to the cottage. My children aged 7 and 9 loved playing in the big park (It is a small quiet village so they had the park to themselves most of the time) the local shop is 50yds away, We did visit the pub once ( but i understand it is having a major refurbishment so hopefully will be nicer in future). I strongly recommend this cottage to anyone visiting cornwall. We have holidayed in cornwall in the past and have visited many tourist places already i.e lands end, st ives etc. This trip we visited St Michaels mount again as our children love going there and st Ives. We went to constantine beach,Port Isaac, Tintagel and also hired bikes from wadebridge to padsow. There are so many lovely places to visit but not enough hours in the day, but to be honest I would have been happy to relax at the cottage and sit in the garden all week.We hope to holiday at penweir again next year.

"Home from home, in a fantastic location in beautiful North Cornwall"
Five of us stayed at this lovely cottage last week. It was in a perfect location for us, just a short drive from the A30 near Bodmin. It was very close to Padstow, Tintagel and some wonderful beaches including Constantine, Treyarnon and Polzeath. My children loved that it was next to a small play park and it was conveniently located near a little village store and Post Office open until 7pm each evening.
The decor was of a high standard for a rental, and the bathrooms were very modern and well equipped. The owner left some milk, bread, and very welcome Nespresso capsules for the coffee machine for our arrival. We had a wonderful week here and would recommend to others.
