Cornwall is renowned for its rugged moorland scenery, spectacular coastline and charming villages. All of which are within easy reach of the cottage.
North Cornwall is famous for its beaches and harbours. Perhaps best know are Padstow (Rick Stein) and Port Isaac (Doc Martin). Both are within easy reach of the cottage and even nearer is the very pleasant town of Wadebridge where there are ample parking facilities. Much of the town is pedestrianised and contains numerous shops catering for a variety of interests.
The Wadebridge / St Mabyn area
The famous Eden Project is only 15 miles away and, for real garden enthusiasts, the Lost Gardens of Heligan are just a 20 mile drive away.
For walkers, in addition to the South West Coastal Path, St Mabyn is well situated for exploring Bodmin Moor and in particular Brown Willy, the highest point in Cornwall.
Golfers are also well catered for, with courses at Rock (Daymer Bay GC) and St Enodoc. There is also a nine hole golf course just two miles away at St Kew..
The harbours of Padstow and Port Isaac are well worth a visit, although at peak times they can become very busy and parking can be a problem. The nearest beach is at Polzeath where there is an excellent sandy beach and plenty of parking. Further beaches can be found along the eastern side of the Camel estuary, particularly at Rock and Daymer Bay. A passenger ferry operates from Rock to Padstow, where you can spend a very pleasant few hours browsing the shops and taking in the various cafes and restaurants.
The famous Camel Trail (once an old railway track linking Wadebridge to Padstow) is well worth exploring on foot or on a bicycle, which can be hired from either Wadebridge or Padstow.

My family and I fancied a trip away for a few days before the madness of christmas descended upon us. This was the perfect choice. The location is peaceful and surrounded by countryside, and the locals were very friendly and welcoming. All of the local towns and beaches that surround the area have something to offer including lovely shops and places to eat & drink, which makes it a great base for a variety of different groups. Even though we went in december we still couldn't wait to get down to the beach to do some rock pooling, which our little boy loved doing. (There was actually a crab bucket and crabline at the property that we were able to borrow!) I have been holidaying in the UK for many years and the cottage itself is one of the best I have stayed in. It's completely equipped for every sutuation you can imagine and it just made our time there very stress-free. There were stairgates and a highchair ready for us to use, which meant we didn't have fill up our car with bulky furniture, and there were even childrens sticker books and DVDs to keep them entertained whilst we all got ready for a day out! It has a great personal and welcoming feel to it so we will definitely be going back. |
