Originally a stone barn this property is now completely transformed into a spacious, well appointed holiday residence. Swallows Nest is part of Colesent Cottages, just 3 barn conversions and owners residence set with 4 acres of grounds in this peaceful, yet accessible part of North Cornwall. The cottages are hidden away at the end of a private lane that leaves the public highway next to the Camel Trail (and Camel River) at Poleys Bridge. The villages of St Tudy and Blisland with theirs pubs and village shops are under 2 miles away. Time and again our visitors comment on the great location. Approximately 20 mins from the world class beaches of the North Cornwall coast and yet within easy reach of the A30 meaning the Eden Project and the South Cornwall fishing villages of Fowey and Mevagissey are barely half an hour in the other direction. The Camel Trail is at the end of our drive, a 16 mile cycling and walking path that follows the Camel River to Padstow. Many guests report completing the "Colesent Challenge" the 32 mile round trip to Padstow and back. (Originally the trail was a railway line carrying china clay from Bodmin Moor to the port of Padstow so the route is nearly flat - apart from our drive which rises to the cottages as you finish the trip! The cottage is laid out all on one level with the front door opening into a large farmhouse style kitchen with central pine dining table. The living room features exposed beams and an open fire. The family bathroom is large with a thermoststic shower over the bath. The master bedroom is spacious with plenty of room for an extra single bed. A door leads to the ensuite shower room. 2nd double room and a small twin bedded room (this room is most suitable for children but with the beds being 3' divans adults have successfully stayed here although storage space is limited.)

Parking for 2 cars is available near the property on a gravel drive. Additional parking nearby. Double French doors open from the master bedroom onto a sunny courtyard furnished with patio furniture available for the sole use of Swallows Nest guests.
25% deposit secures your holiday. The balance is payable 8 weeks before the start of your stay. Short Breaks are available in the Autumn and Winter although we will consider at anytime if you notice we have availability.
Any short break prices you see are based on 2 people sharing the cottage. A small extra charge is levied for extra guests or if the 2 people sharing require separate beds.
The West Country region
Colesent cottages are ideally situated to satisfy the most demanding list of "must haves" that any group of prospective holiday makers might put together.
For the traditional summer family holiday you need beaches! The nearest to us are the golden sandy stretches that make up the north side of the Camel Estuary. Rock and Daymer Bay are the main ones. Unusually for the North coast these beaches are protected from the Atlantic Surf and so the waves are smaller. As the tide goes out the coves join together making it possible to walk between them and also around to Polzeath. Polzeath sticks out just that little bit further and so is not protected from open Atlantic which means the Surf is back! (Polzeath is a very popular surfing beach at anytime of the year). Travelling time from Colesent: Rock/Daymer - 25 mins, Polzeath 20 mins.
Of course the North Coast bristles with stunning beaches. Only slightly further away, travelling west are the inlets and coves around Trevose head and the wider expanses of Watermouth and Newquay. North eastward up the coast you come to Trebarwith Strand and Crackington Haven.
When the beach isn't a priority (either at all or because of weather ) there is also plenty on offer. A large indoor swimming pool is only 2 miles away. The pretty market town of Wadebridge, bustling cosmopolitan Padstow, Port Isaac (The Port Wenn of TV's Doc Martin), Boscastle, Tintagel, Bodmin Moor and Bodmin itself are all well within half an hours drive. Pencarrow and Lanhydrock are the closest of many National Trust and English Heritage Properties. The World Famous Eden Project is half an hour away by car.
Our position also means that the South Coast attractions are also a pleasant drive away: Looe & Polperro, Fowey, Mevagissey and Charlestown to name but a few.
On a week or fortnights holiday you might want to venture a bit further a field. The 3 miles or so to the A30 means that Falmouth, St Ives and even The Lizard Peninsular can be reached in between 1 and 1 1/2 hours.
There are many other wonderful things to see and do. I haven't mentioned Theme Parks, Nature walks, Coast Paths or any number of additional possibilities. Come and stay and discover them for yourselves!
Wadebridge is one of North Cornwall's main market towns and gateway to the Camel Trail, now the third largest attraction in the whole of Cornwall. This centrally located town has much to offer visitors of all ages and interests all year round. Molesworth Street is a pedestrianised shopping street featuring many individual shops, cafes and the Molesworth Arms public house. Additional shopping and dining options are available along the Eddystone Rd and in the Polmorla Walk precinct.
The Camel Trail is a tract of beautiful countryside over 17 miles length. The Trail goes from Wadebridge to Padstow and from Wadebridge to Pooley's Bridge (Where Colesent Cottages is!). The whole of the Trail is level as it used to be part of the Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway. There is also refreshments along the way and a Public House at Bodmin. Bike hire is in plentiful supply in Wadebridge with three shops including Bridge Bike Hire in Eddystone Road, at the start of the Wadebridge to Padstow stretch of the Trail. The Trail is also popular for bird watchers, with a purpose built bird hide half way between Wadebridge and Padstow.

"Good spacious property, but small twin room"

"Good family accommodation with space for the children to play, inside or out."
Swallows Nest is wonderfully remote, so take your first night supplies with you unless you plan to eat out (the excellent Blisland Inn is a short drive away with a first class supply of beers and good food, but not particularly child friendly). The cottage has great gardens for children to have 'adventures' and a steep walk down to the Camel River and Trail is a haven for birds, animals and insects. There is a plentiful, if eclectic, supply of cutlery, crockery and glassware and all the cookware you need including microwave.
We were thankful for the central heating as we had picked a very wet period and the radiators did sterling service drying our clothes. However, there is a small BBQ provided which fed the extended family one sunny evening.
The 18 mile ride to Padstow (for a pint) is easy on the well defined track which was little used in the wet weather. Plenty of rest/picnic spots too. We managed to do the return trip one day, arriving back soaked muddy and tired to the welcoming warmth of Swallows Nest. Being somewhat 'celebrity' averse we did not use Mr Stein's famouse Padstow eateries but merrily left the Harour Inn refreshed for the return journey! In Padstow the Metropole Hotel serves excellent morning coffee on the verandah overlooking the Camel estuary with great views of river and dockside activities.
Our family group at Swallows Nest ranged from 6-months and a 3 year old to 69 years old. All were well catered for.
Great if you like cycling of a more gentle nature (except the drive...). Plenty of fishing available in the area too.
A lovely place with welcoming and helpful hosts.

"Very well appointed accommodation in a superb rural location on the Camel trail"
We wanted a rural location with easy access to the Camel trail for our two boys who are mad keen cyclists, but a little too young to be let loose on the highway. This fitted the bill perfectly. We could get from our front door 12+ miles down the trail to Wadebridge without even having to cross a major road. Despite the remote location, supermarkets are only 20 minutes away in Bodmin, and excellent beaches at Polzeath and Rock not much further. The cottage was spacious but cozy, with efficient modern central heating and plentiful supplies of all those things it's normally such a pain to organise (soap, towels, tea, coffee, etc.). Vodafone reception was good, wi-fi not so good (but as advertised). I have stayed in many very good self catering cottages, but this was the best yet. Highly recommended!
