Home description
Burrow Cot is a 16th Century cottage nestling in the sleepy hamlet of St Breock in North Cornwall. It is a perfect retreat from a hectic world and ideally located to explore the magical county of Cornwall. The cottage has recently been renovated and displays some marvellous features such as original beams, slate flagstones and an inglenook fireplace with woodburning stove. With one double and one twin room and a kids room with bunk beds it is perfect for a family or two couples. The patio is tailored for al fresco dining. We have a book and movie collection and the emphasis is on aesthetics with antique furniture and varied artworks. St Breock Church is about 1/4 mile away, in the valley. It is a very peaceful location.
The cottage is in the middle of a terrace of three. It is situated a mile south west of the busy market town of Wadebridge which boasts various eateries, 2 butchers and one fishmonger, a great off license and a cinema. Conveniently Tesco is only a 5 minute drive. 20 minutes away are the famous beaches Polzeath, Harlyn and Constantine and the fishing village of Padstow. Nearby attractions include the Camel cycling trail, Crealy Adventure park, Springfields pony centre and farm and a Wild West Theme Park. Further afield are Tintagel and its Arthurian legend, Bodmin and its Steam Railway, the Eden project and Truro can be reached in 45 minutes.

The West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall or Kernow as it is known locally has a magical quality distinct from all other parts of the country. This is most noticeable in the inland areas although it is the coastal towns, the beaches and the tourist attractions which mainly attract visitors.
There is something for everyone in North Cornwall particularly artists, walkers, surfers, historians, golfers, gastronomists, cyclists, fishing enthusiasts, country house and garden lovers, horse riders, sailors and extreme sport fanatics. And of course children love it, especially the beautiful beaches but don't forget the adventure parks, the open farms, Newquay's aquarium, Boscastle's witches museum, the steam railways and Gweek's seal sanctuary.
With wireless internet available at the cottage and some suggested websites you will be able to tailor a memorable break.
Wadebridge / St Breock area
We have an ordnance survey map framed in the hallway helping you navigate the local area.
St Breock is a very quiet peaceful place with a handful of dwellings. Down the hill, just a few minutes walk, is the parish church which dates back to the 13th centuary and is dedicated to one of the 5th century saints who journeyed from Ireland to Wales to Cornwall and finally Brittany.
A public footpath runs from the hamlet across fields to Wadebridge. Half a mile away is Coronation Park, an open grass park ideal for a game of footie. There are also some woods to explore.
The Royal Cornwall Showground is also closeby - about half a mile. Throughout the summer it hosts various events but the highlight is the Royal Cornwall Show in early June. It is a 3 day agricultural extravagansa of food, drink, livestock and dog events, driving events, steam rallies and live music. It is one of Cornwall's major tourist events and you're within walking distance! Get that scrumpy down!
Tesco is about 3/4 of a mile.
The nearest pub is the Quarryman's Inn in Edmonton serving excellent food. It's about a mile. About 4 miles is the pub at St Kew which is a great traditional pub with even better grub.
Wadebridge is about a mile. It's a bustling vibrant market town with boutiques, pubs, takeaways, North Cornwall's only cinema and Wadebridge Wines - a broad and discerning selections of wines, beers and spirits from around the world. Two cycle hire centres straddle the Camel Trail where it's a 5 mile pedal West to Padstow or 6 miles East to Bodmin. Beautiful.
Padstow (6 miles) hosts galleries, pubs and the famous Rick Stein Hotel, Restaurant and Brasserie. Well worth a visit. The restaurant Custard also gets a good write up. Rock is about 7 miles and a quiet place for a sailing trip.
The local surfing beaches are about 8 miles away - Polzeath and Constantine pick up any swell the Atlantic has to offer. Harlyn is north facing so more sheldered. Damer Bay is beautiful and calm and neighbours St Enodoc golf course. This is Sir John Betjeman (Poet Laureate) territory and he is buried here. The John Betjeman centre is in Wadebridge.
Bodmin is 8 miles and previously the county's capital. It is a historic town, the Bodmin and Wenford steam railway is fun, Bodmin Jail is spooky and the moors are a different world (although should be accessed from Camelford). Pencarrow House is spectacular as are its gardens, on the Wadebridge to Bodmin A389.
Slightly further afield are Tintagel and its Arthurian legend, Boscastle, the Bedruthan Steps, Watergate Bay and Jamie Oliver's 15 restaurant. Truro is 25 miles. Eden Project 18 miles. St Ives 44 miles.
