Situated in a 520 year old Venetian Gothic house in a prime position on the main square of a medieval town, Benussi is surprisingly quiet - (though you may be woken by the resonate church bells!). Very spacious rooms with great views from all 10 windows. Vodnjan is an unspoilt gem with the restaurant Taverna Vodnjanka described as Istria's best kept culinary secret. Beaches and pine shaded coves are only 10 minutes away. Ideal for family hols with plenty to do and see in the surrounding area.

The Istria region
The west coast of Istria gets an average of 2400 hours of sunshine a year. The locals tend to predict the weather by instant calculations of the season and wind directions: bora, levanat, tramontana, sirocco, maestral, burin, lebic, nevera, yugo). Less nuanced observation would conclude that the weather is, well, Mediterranean.
Istria exhibits diverse geography. The mountainous landscapes of north and east give way to a hilly and verdant interior before embracing the sea in tongues of red earth and rocky, pine-covered headlands. There are precipitous gorges, underground rivers, forested ridges, olive groves, and scores of coves, inlets and islands.
The ebb and flow of cultural influence through this once strategic gateway have left a fascinating record of human adaptation - Roman fortresses, early Christian churches, hill-top bastions, Venetian trading ports, baroque palaces, grand hotels, and, well, nudist camps.
Vodnjan area
The apartment is in a much photographed Venetian Gothic house in prime position on the main square of the medieval town of Vodjnan in Istria, 20 minutes bike ride from the beach. Vodnjan is 20 minutes from Pula airport (Ryanair), 2 hours from Rijeka airport and Trieste airport. It is also 20 minutes from Rovinj and 5 minutes from the ferry to Brijuni Islands.
The local area is excellent for biking, exploring, walking and rock climbing. Nearby Pula has a large Roman amphitheatre, a busy harbour as well as museums, shops and many cultural and sporting activities. Frequent bus service.
How to get there
Ryanair flies to Pula (20 minutes by taxi from the airport.) Ryanair also flies to Trieste (2.5 hours); Easyjet flies to Rijeka from Bristol and Luton (2.5 hours- hire car). Further details indoors: There are board games and plenty of books to read (in English), and amplifer and speakers for your iPod.
Further details outdoors: Access to the roof terrace is not suitable for the infirm or for very young children. It is equipped with a table and chairs. The view over the roof tops of Vodnjan to the Brijuni islands off the coast is lovely.
You can often park your car right outside the door. If not, there is parking in the square a couple of minutes from the apartment.
