The Island of Malta region

The climate of Malta is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. During the summer months (May to September) there is little rain, and about 12 hours of sunshine daily. During the winter months it is mild with on average 5-6 hours of sunshine per day, meaning it is great to visit all year round.
A trip to Malta allows you to relax in a warm, friendly and centrally situated Mediterranean island, where the sea is crystal clear and the climate mild all the year round.
The island is small meaning it is easy to get around. Malta has something for everyone. From old historic cities with fascinating museums and medieval palaces to young and vibrant coastal towns where you can simply relax and soak up the sun or enjoy a variety of water sports, fishing and diving.
Malta is perhaps best known for its world heritage sites, most prominently the megalithic temples which are the oldest free-standing structures on Earth.
Valletta and Sliema are full of brand name shops where one can find anything that the heart desires. Open air markets in Malta are very popular. There is an open market practically every day. It is impossible to mention everything this gem of an Island has to offer; the Maltese people are renowned for their hospitality and friendship and are only too pleased to help if you require any assistance.
The Vittoriosa / The Three Cities area
Vittoriosa is the oldest of the Three Cities and was the headquarters of the Knights of St John when they came to Malta in 1530. Having withstood the Great Siege of 1565, Vittoriosa became the seat of government in Malta, prior to Valletta being made the capital city.
Vittoriosa cannot help but captivate you as you meander through the myriad of wonderful ancient streets and houses. It is also home to a number of museums such as the Maritime Museum along the water front, the Inquisitor’s Palace and the Malta at War Museum. There are also occasional festivals and firework displays.
Vittoriosa, due to its historical charm and beauty, is a popular film location and some of the buildings have featured in films such as The Count of Monte Christo, Gladiator, and Troy. It is also an international marina hosting an increasing number of super yachts from all over the world that come to berth at Vittoriosa. Cruise liners gracefully glide into the Grand Harbour of Valletta which you can observe from the roof terrace of the house.
Along the harbour front and in Vittoriosa itself there are a number of restaurants, wine bars and cafes serving delicious Maltese cuisine including an array of freshly caught seafood to enjoy whilst in the idyllic surroundings of the Grand Harbour and the marina. There are also water taxi and boat trips available from outside maritime museum

Paul, the owner, made all the arrangements very simple and straightforward, responding promptly to all e-mails. The property is a beautifully renovated and furnished 'house of character' - a phrase used by Maltese estate agents to indicate that the original building is a traditional block limestone build. The renovation has been done to a very high standard - and the decor is elegant and sympathetic to the age of the house. Templar House is in a neighbourhood of Malta where people live and work - not a typical tourist destination - but all the more pleasant for that. Vittoriosa - about 5 minutes walk from Templar House - includes a vibrant and glamorous marina, as well as a walled old town with many proudly Maltese restaurants as well as modern and elegant bars, wine bars and places to eat and relax. The view from the top of the house over the marina towards Senglea - with the outline of the church on the hill - is really spectacular. The house is wired for wi-fi but we were not able to set up - not critical, as we don't go on holiday to surf the net! We had an excellent week in the off season - many clear sunny days - and experienced Malta as a fascinating historic destination - and clearly a yachtie's heaven. The numerous marinas are evidence of this. The people are open, friendly and by their own description, laid back. It is the most photogenic place - with rich cream-coloured limestone wall everywhere - every angle is a National Geographic shot. Templar House will give you a wonderful base as a holiday and for exploration of the island - as bus and water taxi transport is cheap and accessible. |

A stunning large high quality authentic Maltese house that feels homely. We were met by a local taxi firm that were very helpful and we used them several times. The welcome pack of food and drink... more |

A lovely and traditional place to stay in the old capital.Well away from the main tourist centres but the buses and water taxis make everywhere easily accessible even without a car.Templar House is very spacious and contempory despite its historic origins and the view of the harbour from the roof terrace is wonderful.Paul is very efficient and eay to deal with so the experience is problem free. |

Templar House is a unique vantage point to historical Malta and delivers a true sense of the picturesque island. We thoroughly enjoyed our days at Templar House. The spaciousness allowed for complete relaxation along with the postcard views from the terrace. Beds are comfortable with plenty of pillows, air conditioning is efficient, facilities are top-notch, welcome pack is great. Malta exudes history and staying at Templar House is the icing on the cake.

Thanks so much for making our stay such an enjoyable one and so easy - the house really was fantastic, and we had a brilliant week in Malta, it's a fantastic place. Your recommendations were great as well, and the bottle of wine on arrival the first of many excellent Maltese wines enjoyed on the terrace.
April 2010
We loved our stay in Templar House. The house itself is incredibly spacious, over 3 storeys with a large roof terrace and an upstairs kitchen area which is great, as it saves walking up and down the (very lovely) staircase to the downstairs kitchen for drinks! The kitchen is very well equipped and we didn't need for anything during our stay. Bathrooms were great, bedrooms lovely, good TV/ sitting room area, great inner courtyard area off the kitchen, all very comfortable and stylish too. Loved the black and white tiles and the tasteful decor, it's a good looking house!
Location wise- it was just a few minutes and a very pleasant walk to our favourite restaurant (also a deli with superb wines) Del Borgo. We also walked to Kalkarra which took 5 or so minutes and we walked round to Senglea which can't have taken more than 10 minutes- walking around here is lovely so it's nice to take your time, lots of pretty narrow streets and steps, magical at night. We also went to the Vittoriosa waterfront quite a lot and looked at the Maltese Falcon which was moored there- amazing. The restaurants here were lovely too- we had a lovely meal at Riviera della Marina. We got the bus to Valletta which took about 15 minutes and the bus stop is very close to the house, the buses are really cheap, only about 2 euros for 4 people!
In all, we had a really lovely stay and wished we could have stayed longer. Would definitely return.

Had a wonderful time thank you- Malta was great- as was your lovely house and your recommendations were spot on! Especially liked the roof terrace! In our opinion, Vittoriosa is one of the nicest parts of what we saw of Malta, so we are delighted to have been able to stay there. Thanks again!

We had the most wonderful time and were very pleasantly surprised by how friendly and helpful everybody was. To say we have fallen in love with your property is an understatement! Well done on you both for creating such a beautiful space.

Templar house is a fantastic base for exploring Malta, with great local amenities including shops, wine bars and restaurants. Everything has been considered from the well stocked welcome pack and information about the island, to the wonderfully modernised, spacious house itself. The well kitted out kitchen was great, as was the washing machine. Add in cool, airy bedrooms, 3 different dining areas and 3 bathrooms and this really is the perfect holiday house. We got a great sense of staying in a real Maltese area, rather than a high rise beach resort, but got to enjoy amazing views of Valletta, the Three Cities skyline.
Thanks to the owners for great end to end organisation and making everything run smoothly. We’d recommend the bakery, Del Borgo wine bar and Cafe Du Brazil for provisions locally! A brilliant holiday and a house I would definitely recommend (and have!) to friends.
September 2009:
Malta was great - it was gloriously hot! The people should be bottled and marketed - they are so friendly! We were absolutely delighted with the property - it was five star! Your attention to detail was excellent. We have stayed in a number of properties rented directly from the owners over the last few years. This was without question the best equipped and the most attractive. It is ideally placed for all the sights. Everything worked properly. The kitchen was beautifully appointed. The whole place was great. I particularly liked the roof terrace and the room leading onto it. It was a lovely touch to have all the facilities up there to have breakfast overlooking the harbour. Everything has been very well thought out. Your information pack was also excellent. We followed a lot of your recommendations and were never disappointed. The bakery was particularly good!!!! We have already recommended you to some of our friends.
September 2009:
We had a great holiday at Templar House, I really wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, we all thought it was far more interesting staying in the Vittoriosa area rather than the usual holiday areas of St Julians and Sliema etc.
August 2009:
We had a wonderful two week holiday in your traditional but beautifully modernised house. The house was extremely comfortable, spacious and very well equipped with a lot of attention paid to detail. It was one of the the best self-catering houses we have stayed in over the past 30 years. The inclusive taxi collection and welcome pack was much appreciated, especially at 1:30 am on a Sunday morning! We especially loved the roof terrace and the view over the marina. The location was ideal for us in a traditional non touristy area but with all the history and facilities of Vittoriosa with excellent restaurants, shops, museums and transport all within a few minutes walking distance. We hope to come back again as we have fallen in love with Malta and we still have so much to see.
August 2009:
We had a lovely time staying in your house, from first arriving(in the early hours), we loved the clean fresh feel to
it. The house has been really well converted and the fact it is actually two houses into one makes it feel large and spacious.Everything seems to have been thought of , and as we said before it is a real credit to you both.We loved the kitchen, the roof terrace, the bedrooms, the extremely efficient air-conditioning,(a real bonus), the views of the marina. The way it has been decorated and furnished is perfect, bringing traditional and modern together, and just a few, pieces of furniture in each room adds to the clean, calm feel. it is a pleasure to see a house in Malta so lovingly converted, and the location is ideal. Also the walk up the quaint old steps to get to the house is lovely. Thankyou for all your help in making sure everything ran smoothly, and enabling us to have a very nice holiday.
August 2009:
It was a privilege to stay at Templar House. It is an authentic old stone house with high vaulted ceilings, which
has been carefully restored, tastefully furnished and equipped to the highest standards. There are three floors with nooks and crannies to discover on each, all set around an inner courtyard. Although the house is at the heart of a warm and friendly community in a maze of alleys and stone steps, it is completely secluded and absolutely quiet at night. We particularly loved the rooftop terrace for breakfast, tea and sundowners overlooking the magnificent rosy-coloured domes and bastions of the Knights' Three Cities and the Grand Harbour of Valletta itself. It has the convenience of a kitchen on the top floor, as well as the superb downstairs kitchen-dining area and three bathrooms. Everything the heart could desire. The owners have also provided a booklet with exhaustive information on anything and everything you might need to know. This is not a place for those whose priorities are the beach and the nightlife, but as a base for exploring "the real Malta" and living the good life it is ideal. Our week at Templar House was an unforgettable experience - we warmly and unreservedly recommend it.
