The Lazio region

The apartment's ideal location in northern Lazio situated only 60km north of Rome and 160km south of Florence offers an ideal base to explore this region's beautiful and diverse attractions. These cities and others including Viterbo (12km),Orvieto (40km) and Spoleto (70km) to name but a few are all easily accessible by car, alternatively the railway station at Orte (15km) is the main junction to all major destinations throughout Italy.
In the summer months enjoy the excellent beaches and charming lakeside towns and villages of Lazio's stunning lakes; Lake Bolsena (35km), Vico (15km), Bracciano (40km).
Lazio's and Tuscany's delightful coastline is within easy reach of the apartment, offering sandy stretches of beach to rugged bays. A 40min drive takes you to Tarquinia Lido. The Etruscan town of Tarquinia is famed for it's archaeological sites and relics. Lazio's beaches Santa Marinella, Montalto di Castro and Pesce Romana are also within an hrs drive. The Tuscan coastal towns of Porto Ercole, Porto S.Stefano and the Islands of Giglio and Elba are reached in over an hrs drive.
The Viterbo area
A good variety of local amenities; banks, excellent restaurants and bars are all within a short walk from the apartment. Located on and around the main piazza (a 10min walk) are many stores providing good local produce. The local supermarket is a 2 minute drive away.
Northern Lazio's largest town is the ancient beautful walled city of Viterbo (15min drive) offering the larger hypermarkets and a bigger selection of all of the above. Also including museums and galleries, designer shops, discos and the famed health spa 'Le Terme dei Papi', for those who want a little pampering. Stunning 'San Pellegrino' is the oldest part of town and houses an array of antique shops and artisan markets.
Standing 1,150 metres behind Soriano is the vast wooded nature reserve of 'La Faggeta'. Winding roads with spectacular views take you to the ideal place to escape the summer heat, for a dip in Lake Vico, cool walks and picnics or to the excellent restaurant/gelateria nestled in the shade of the wood.
There are 3 local swimming pools. The larger of the three is the sulphuric 'Terme di Orte' (15min) a larger open air comlpex with restaurant and bar ideal for families, 'La Molinella' a smaller complex in Soriano itself and Soriano's olympic size pool. 'Aquafelix' at Civitavecchia is the largest waterpark in the area.
Soriano is just one of the many beautiful towns dotted around this region, others include Caprarola home to the stunning Palazzo Farnese and Bagnaia famed for Villa Lante and it's fabulous grand gardens. For it's beauty and uniqueness Bagnoreggio is also a must see.
Each town and village celebrate their own festivals throughout the year; i.e. Montefiascone's 'Fier del Vino' (Wine Festival) on 1st-15th August and Viterbo's impressive 'Macchina di Santa Rosa' on the 3rd September. Soriano's most famous festival, 'Sagra della Castagna' (Chestnut Festival) is celebrated in the first two weeks of October, bringing visitors from far and wide. Here you can enjoy medieval processions and join in the celebrations held in the local 'taverna's' and taste the fantastic local cuisine. Soriano's International Jazz Festival is held each July.

In two words - Loved It !! Everything perfect. The view will be remembered always, especially the lovely colours at night. Recommend trips to - Monster Park and the lovely village Bomarzo, Villa Lante Gardens at Bagnaia, Monte Argentario - beautiful island, sea is crystal clear and fantastic beaches. Lago di Vico (the nearest lake) wonderful, very quiet, great place to swim and many other places to visit. Food again was excellent, difficult to recommend as everywhere we ate out in was superb. Plenty in Soriano - Taverna dei Frati, Due Camini, Tre Scalini (sea bass - wow!) Bit further afield Trattoria Moderna - St Martino and Hotel Biscetti Restaurant - Bagnaia, both worth a visit superb food in both. A return visit a must. Thank you Daniela.

We absolutely loved the apartment, so well equipped and such a fantastic position. A trip to Rome on the train from Orte is a must. We enjoyed the lakes especially Vico. Faggeta forest is great for cooling off under the trees and is wonderful for a walk. Bagnoreggio is such an interesting place and must not be missed!! Soriano is a lively town and great to walk into in the evenings - lovely gelateria in the main piazza. A great holiday all round!

A lovely apartment with a beautiful view. We have very much enjoyed our stay here, particularly relaxing in the scorching heat by Lago di Vico, as well as visiting Rome, Viterbo and Orvieto. We are already planning our return to explore more of the area!

Glad we found this. We are regular apartment renters around Europe and this is one of the best equipped. Good location - went into Rome a lot so quite familiar with Orte Scalo! Had an interesting trip to Tarquinia - the tombs are amazing and a lovely afternoon in both Bagnoreggio and Bolsena (Roman/Etruscan ruins above Castle well worth a look) You can't beat a glass of wine in the square at Bagnoreggio as the afternoon comes to an end - lovely. Restaurant Tre Scalini in Soriano - not that swish but the food (esp seafood) top quality and great prices. Great trip.
Macdonalds - Edinburgh, Scotland
An extremely well thought-out and beautiful apartment. Thank you so much Daniela! We had a wonderful honeymoon in Soriano nel Cimino. This is an ideal location for exploring Italy. Much appreciated! :-)
John and Hazel - Devon, England
Arrived on the opening night of the Chestnut Festival to the sound of beating drums and trumpet fanfares. The festivities included parades, flag throwing, jousting and a palio, all in traditional medieval costume - a great delight and so unexpected. A week of wonderful weather touring around beautiful historic 'lived in' villages and walking on Mont Cimini chestnut forest. Three good well priced local restaurants enjoyed in Soriano, Taverna dei Frati, Tre Scalini and Due Camini. Viterbo is well worth a visit with a good walking map from the tourist office. Lovely apartment with fantastic views as promised.
Mark and Linda - Bath, UK
Will remember fondly the beautiful sunrise each morning from the balcony over breakfast, while listening to the typical Italian church bells. We found the apartment to be an ideal location to explore this wonderful region and just the right distance for an evening stroll into the lively town of Soriano. 'Bar Roma's' pastries, in the main piazza, will never be forgotten.

Thank you so much for all your hospitality. Enjoyed staying in your beautiful, well equipped apartment with the marvelous view! Ate and drank far too much as we always do when holidaying in Italy...but every meal was so worth it. Spent many days at lake Vico lazing on the beach. Also thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing on our two trips to Rome, an easy trian journey from Orte station. All in all we had a fantastic stay at Apartment Oleandri. We will be back. x

We have discovered a truly wonderful little Italian town in Soriano nel Cimino. Walking through it's medieval streets is like stepping back in time - Splendid! Visited also Bagnoreggio, Vitrebo, Orvieto, Bracciano and Bolsena to name a few. Especially loved driving around and stopping off at the many towns and villages around Bolsena Lake, had a great meal at 'Ristorante Gino al Miralago' in Marta. Grazie Mille. PS Thank you for the lovely welcome basket, the crema di nocciola went down a treat.
