My name is Alessandro and togheter Annamaria we bought this house in 2008, after a long time, while we were looking for "a place to escape", not so far from Rome.

First time we visited Farnese we understood that could be the right place to stay.

So we bought this little piece of history.

Just in a little square in a part of village called "Tralipozza"(among wells), we found this little house.

Daniele, the former owner and now our friend, worked to restructure two warehouse, trasforming them in a little jewel.

He also found a medieval cave, that I use to store my wines collection, and two medieval well, that is possible to see, inside our house, through a glass floor.

The Lazio region

An area, called the Maremma Laziale, that's rich in natural beauty, traditions (such as the butteri - the original cowboys), excellent Italian cuisine, wines and oils (Canino olive oil is world famous and reckoned by many to be the best Italian olive oil going).

Whatever you're looking for in your holiday (nature, sea, lakes, hilltop towns, food & wine...), the Maremma Laziale is bound to have it.

Farnese is built on a rocky outcrop, with the River Olpeta running below. The main square just below the Mediaeval centre is dominated by the aqueduct (no longer in use), the ancient gateway and Palazzo Ducale (also known as Palazzo Rocca). The latter, now privately owned, forms one side of the picturesque Piazza della Rocca.

The Mediaeval centre teems with steep alleyways, steps and pretty doorways.

Not to be missed: the "Ferrante Rittatore Vonwiller" Civic Museum in Via Colle S. Martino, just outside the old centre. This contains many archaeological finds from the old "butti" (wells dug out of the local tuff rock and used to store grain) which were then used by the local population in past centuries as rubbish tips. Thanks to this, a lot of old pottery is now on show in the museum. Plus Bronze Age artefacts, details and finds from the local archaeological sites in the area known as "Sorgenti della Nova".

The Museum is also the official Visitors Centre for the Selva del Lamone.
