Home description
Les Madieres is situated on nearly one and a half acres of grassy lawn with gardens, an apple orchard, a pond, and a terrace.
A picturesque stone farmhouse that has been updated to a clean, modern residence inside. Lovely views from each bedroom over the south facing front yard, well away from busy roads and period pieces throughout create a feeling of retreat from day to day life. The home has been completely re-furnished with new beds, lounge furniture, kitchen dishes and pots.
Cool in the summer due to the stone exterior and cozy in the winter thanks to individually controlled rads in every room. A perfect merging of rustic and comfort!

The Normandy / Calvados region
Les Madieres is a 10-15 minute drive from Vire, a busy town with a population of 15,000. Foodies will adore the wonderful market that takes over the centre of town on Fridays. Vire contains everything you could need: shopping, bakeries, cafes, cinema, and restaurants. A waterpark includes indoor and outdoor water slides that will delight children, and sauna, steamroom and a Jacuzzi to delight their parents! An enormous, modern grocery store lies just on the outskirts of town.
There are some gorgeous small villages and towns within Calvados, breathtaking drives and scenery, medieval villages and castles.
Vire area
The Normandy region is bursting with activities and attractions. Sun-worshippers have plenty of choice for beaches. Granville is a direct train ride from Vire. The fashionable beach resort of Deauville is 1hr drive away—hit the casino, go shopping, and walk in the footsteps of Old Hollywood stars.
Of course Normandy is teeming with history and culture. Mont St. Michel, William the Conqueror, Rouen and Joan of Arc, D-day landing beaches, Monet’s Giverny, the Bayeux Tapestry...
Families and young children have plenty to keep them busy: Festyland amusement park, the Festival International de Cerf-Volant (Kite Festival!) at Dieppe, La Cite de la Mer Aquarium in Cherbourg, the Zoo de Jurques, the Chateau de Vendeuvre with talking mechanical figures, fantastical fountains and mazes.
Gourmets will be in heaven in Normandy: the home of quintessential French cheeses like Camembert, butter, rich creams, and everything apple, including the calvados and the famous apple cider routes of Pays d’Auge.
Superb golf awaits in Normandy. Excellent courses, reasonable prices, very little difficulty in obtaining tee-off times.
And if all that isn’t enough, a direct train from Vire to Paris will have you in the City of Lights in 2 ½ hours.

The house contains 3 comfortable bedrooms (sleeps 6), and 2 bathrooms, including a spa-like bathroom downstairs. The rooms downstairs include a kitchen, dining room, and lounge complete with wood-beamed ceilings and a granite fireplace. The lounge is equipped with a tv, sky digibox, dvd player, games and books. Further details outdoors: Les Madieres is situated on nearly one and a half acres of grassy lawn with gardens, an apple orchard, a pond, and a terrace. A picturesque stone barn is used as a potting shed, garage, and to store firewood. Enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace, stroll through the apple orchard, or relax on a tree-shaded lounge chair and lose yourself in a good book. Children will love playing on the vast level fenced lawn area, or peering into the pond in search of our resident frog. Ignite the barbecue and enjoy some alfresco dining. The setting is tranquil and quiet, surrounded by farmland including our neighbouring cows.

Guestbook for Les Madieres
We had a lovely time at your house in Les Desert. It had everything we needed and was very comfortable for our short stay. The beds are lovely and comfortable and it was great to have fresh linen and towels provided. The house was nice and warm when we arrived and the wine and milk left for us were a lovely welcome. Overall, the house provided for all our needs and exceeded our expectations from the photographs. Perhaps you could include more photos on your website so people can fully appreciate the size of the rooms and the quality of the furnishings (a picture of the dining room and/or shower in the bathroom for example). The garden and surroundings are also very peaceful and I imagine would be lovely in warmer weather. -- Alison E, UK (stayed a week in Feb '09)
