About the home

Le Fresnay is our family-friendly holiday home. Ideal for larger groups to share, making for a great value break. Celebrate a special occasion or Christmas together. Five bedrooms, two up one staircase and three up the other provide space and privacy. 3 bathrooms avoid morning queues.
With 3 boys ourselves we know how important it is to keep children happy and adults relaxed! With that in mind we provide a simple games barn with table tennis, pool table, swings, football nets. Indoor golf net. Also adult and child bikes, tagalongs, 2 highchairs, 2 pushchairs, buckets and spades, body boards. Think of the packing you save! For rainy days, dvd players, cd players, satellite tv and PS1 with games. Comfortable and well equipped.
Stunning long views over bocage countryside. Totally peaceful yet a short drive to Vassy and Vire with shops, market, flume style swimming pool, bowling. Canoeing, horseriding, two zoos, many beaches and historic towns all in easy reach for days out.
Or just relax on a lounger and have long lunches in the large enclosed garden. In cooler times snuggle in front of the woodburner, leave an easy supper in the range and enjoy wonderful walks and rides from the door. Watch buzzards, kestrels, red squirrels and even occasional deer in surrounding fields.

The farmhouse has 2 staircases to separate bedroom areas. This means two families or larger groups can share with space and privacy for all. At one end a snug with tv, satellite freeview and dvd player . This leads upstairs to a small playroom with ps1 game console and 2 bedrooms. One a lovely double with exposed stonework and an ensuite bathroom with rolltop bath and separate shower cubicle. The other bedroom is a large children's room with bunk beds, a single bed (with barrier if required) and a travel cot. In here a tv and dvd player. This end ideal for one family.
Up the other staircase are 2 doubles, one with walk in wardrobe and both with wonderful views. A bathroom with wc and bath with shower over. On the second floor at this end an attic bedroom with double bed, single bed and a shower and sink. ( This room closed if smaller group.)
Downstairs a modern kitchen with everything you could need and more! Coffee machine, slow cookers, electric oven and microwave. Dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer for your convenience.
The beamed dining room has two tables able to link and seat everyone and a shiny red range which can be lit and used for cooking great casseroles or roasts while you have country walks.
Also downstairs a spacious salon with 3 sofas, occasional chairs and woodburning stove. In here is a tv, dvd player, cd player and a wide selection of books (many on the DD landings) cds, dvds and board games. Even a vintage fold out card table.

Further details outdoors:
The garden is fenced and is around an acre. Amazing views and total peace to enjoy. Sunloungers and garden furniture are kept in the large barn. In there you find a golf net to while away some time and a resident owl! For younger ones the great sense of space is enhanced by having a football net, cricket sets, rackets, paddling pool, boules set, swings etc.
Gather round the BBQ and watch the sun set over the hills.
Nearby an English speaking artist runs day courses and has a gallery of lovely watercolours of the wonderful countryside.

The Normandy / Calvados region

Calvados is justly famed for beautiful countryside producing world famous cider, cheese and butter. Rolling hills and ancient buildings produce attractive countryside through which to walk ride or drive. For anyone interested in history the house provides easy access to Mont St Michel to the West, Bayeau to the North and Falaise to the east. More recent events of the WW2 are tastefully evoked at the Normandy landing beaches with memorials and museums. These days the fantastic beaches provide huge spaces with no crowding for wonderful day trips. New and old, country and sea, something for everyone.

The Vire / Fresnay area

The house is a couple of miles from Vassy a pretty little town with local shops and an attractive playpark. 10 minute drive takes you towards Vire and the larger supermarkets. In Vire also is a great swimming pool with flumes, a number of bars, restaurants, shops and a useful tourist information centre. On Fridays there is a lively market. Nearby Lake Dathee has watersports and a golf course. It also has lovely pathways for walks. Within 20 mins drive is the Swiss Normande area with canoeing on the river Orne and the great Velorail line for your carriage to pedal through wonderful scenery. Within easy reach are 2 zoos, the Normandy beaches and the Festyland theme park much loved by our children and reasonably priced. Mont St Michel also great for day out. Loads to do or peace and quiet for those wanting to rest!

The house is only an hour's drive from the ferry terminal at Caen and around one and half from Cherbourg.
Alternatively take the cheaper short crossings by ferry or tunnel to Calais or Boulogne and it is an easy 4 hour drive on the wonderfully quiet French motorways.
There are plenty of excellent picnic areas as well as service stations along the way. A wonderful stop for lunch can be had at Honfleur a beautiful harbour town, just after the Seine crossing.

Flights can take you to nearest airports at Dinan or Rennes.

Please note there is a supply of logs provided for the wood-burner. There is a heating charge of £50.00 from Saturday 27th October 2012 until Saturday 12th May 2013. Bedlinen is included, please bring bring own towels unless flying in which case please enquire at time of booking.

A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking with the remainder payable no later than 8 weeks prior to arrival.

Bookings are made direct with the owners who can email or post the booking form to you and bookings are secured upon receipt of the completed form and deposit.
