The Vilnius County region
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania, the southernmost of the three Baltic countries. Lithuania has been independent from the Soviet Union since 1991 and Vilnius has since rapidly developed into a modern European capital. We would like to offer you the opportunity to use our apartment and become acquainted with this lovely city, of which the Old Town in its entirety is a UNESCO world heritage site, with an abundance of architectural monuments in several styles, a myriad of beautiful churches of several religions and lots of shops and shopping centers, boasting shops of all major brands. Outside the city you will find a green country with hundreds of lakes with clear water, fields and forests. Several castles of which Trakai is the best known. more UNESCO sites such as historical Kernave and nature reserve Neringa, and Gruto Parkas, where you can walk among statues that remind you of the Soviet past. Explore the city on foot, or rent a Segway, walk around by yourself, or join a guided tour.... everything is possible!
Of course Vilnius is at its best in summer, when temperatures can get as high as 30ºC. Stroll from terrace to terrace, dwell through Old Town and its narrow winding streets. Winter in Vilnius also has its charm, when the temperature may well drop below -20ºC enjoy a hot wine and a Lithuanian meal in one of the many restaurants. Our appartment, located on the edge of Old Town, is just minutes away from all the good stuff Old Town has to offer, with a spectacular view!
Vilnius Old Town is one of the nicest historic city centers in Europe, and in its entirety put on the UNESCO world heritage list. Because of the location of Lithuania, on the crossroads of trade routes from north to south and from east to west, a lot of cultures and religions have mixed. Lithuania was once the largest Kingdom of western Europe stretching from the Baltic sea in the north to the Black sea in the south. Remnants of this glorious past can be found still. Historic sites, ruins, castles and museums offer a good insight. Over 40 churches of different religions can be found in the Old Town area, built in many different styles from gothic to baroque to renaissance and neo classic. Quite visible also are the traces of Soviet past, the KGB museum (The Museum of Genocide Victims) is a definite must-see. Although almost all statues of the USSR heroes have been removed from the parks, squares and streetcorners, 4 of them still remain: one on each corner of the Green Bridge. Old Town is also a place where you can eat, be it on a small budget in one of the many pizza places, or more stylish in one of Vilnius' quality restaurants: you will not be disappointed!

"Would definitely stay again."
Very pleasant apartment to stay in for my family of four. The location is great, but not actually "in" Old Town. An easy 5 minute walk from Old Town and 10 minutes from a nice grocery store in the other direction, so about perfect on location. You can see Old Town and the view is spectacular, but not for people watching as one only sees the rooftops, spires, etc., of old town. Theo, the man though whom all correspondence is done before arrival, couldn't be more helpful with everything including questions about the apartment, airport pickup, travel around Lithuania, etc. The woman who brings the keys and opens the apartment is extremely helpful as well. One gets a very comfortable feeling around the people associated with the rental and my family will most definitely contact them upon our next trip to Vilnius.
Thanks for your kind review, we'd be happy to host you again!
