Moulin de Lartigue
About the home
Once one of 66 water mills along the River Dropt, Moulin de Lartigue is accessed by a long private drive and set in 12 acres of parkland. The spacious (140 sq.m) 2 bedroom Quercy cottage with its private terrace & BBQ, overlooking the well tended grounds, provides accommodation for up to 6 people. The original features of colombage walls, fireplaces, stone sink, vaulted oak ceilings and mezzanine reflect a fascinating history.
As well as the huge pool (15m x 8m) - great for swimming laps or playing games; the fishing on site & pine sauna, there's space for cricket, boules, table tennis or a leisurely walk along the river.
Whilst we’re secluded, the Bastide town of Villereal is a convenient 5 minute drive to cater for all your gastronomic needs including supermarkets, restaurants, markets etc. Our guests frequently describe their holiday setting as "Paradise" and always express that 2 weeks just isn't enough time to take advantage of all that Lartigue and this area of SW France has to offer.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region

You can make your holiday as relaxing or as active as you please. Moulin de Lartigue is in the north of the Lot-et-Garonne known as the “Orchard of France”. An easy drive will take you through the stunning scenery of the wine regions around Cahors to the east on the River Lot, Bergerac to the north on the River Dordogne or west on the Dropt at Duras & the largest wine region in France – Bordeaux.
Our area is reputed to have the oldest and greatest number of historical places to visit in France. Steeped in history and legend, as well as an abundance of wildlife and wild flowers to enjoy. The region is also spoilt for choice with prehistoric caves, medieval chateaux, gardens, stunning villages notably St Cirq le Popie and Pujols. Villeneuve-sur-Lot is a full day out.
Take a stroll along the huge viaduct crossing the River Garonne and watch those taking a “waterway” holiday negotiate the many locks, visit one of the best provincial museums in France and explore the narrow cloisters and passageways with their overhanging timber facades.
The Villereal area
For your gastronomic delight there are many restaurants and family run auberges, as well as the local farms and markets for local specialities including foie gras, fruits (the famous Agen prune renowned as the best in the world), cheeses, confit de canard.
For a more active day canoeing, mountain bike hire, golf, a lake with small leisure beach, horse riding, walking and tennis are all within a short drive.
Villereal is just one of the many 13th century Bastide towns. Each with their own unique history and interest, Monflanquin, Monpazier, Issigeac and Castillonnes are all worth a visit.

Guestbook for Moulin de Lartigue
Jan & Neil (Aug 2007) Third visit, just can't stay away. Eldest daughter & family came with us this time. Booked again for next year
Rob, Sue & family (July-Aug 2006) We've had a lovely relaxing time in the area. No need to travel long to find places of interest. Bastides with their history & lovely buildings, markets .... all have a personality of themselves. But most fun is to be had just around the lovely property .... By far the best gite I have been to, loads of space & tremendous facilities.
Keith & Janet (June 2007) What a great week, lovely accommodation, very clean & comfortable. Facilities and grounds very relaxing, but lots to see & do nearby. Many thanks for the hospitality offered by Jennifer & David. We couldn't have felt more welcome. Will recommend to friends and look forward to spending more time here in the future.
Hellena, Glyn & family (May 2008) We arrived and thought we'd died and gone to heaven!!! This is the most beautiful place. We all loved the hot, sunny days by the pool and are returning tanned and relaxed. Far too much to see in a week so we plan to return for a longer stay later in the year. Jennifer & Dave are lovely people and who knows maybe one day we'll be neighbours!!! Dreams do come true!!
Robert, Laurette & family (June 2008) There is always anticipation, excitement & concern when you book your family holiday. You worry in case you have booked "Fawlty Towers". Have to say with hand on heart that this holiday was amazing. A patch of heaven designed just for you. The cottage has been amazing. It is so beautiful and the pool so big has kept our children amused for hours. We have played football, tennis, table tennis, looked for hedgehogs and watched the lizards for hours. Thanks again for the memories.
David, Liz & Rhys (Aug 2009) We prepare to leave totally relaxed. What a holiday - whilst it was great to go to the Dordogne & area canoeing and the like it was so refreshing to return to the peace, pool & tranquility of the gite. Thank you to our wonderful hosts for making this a family holiday never to forget.
Henderson family & friends (August 2010) Thank you so much Jennifer & David for making our stay so chilling & fun! The amazing pool kept all of us kids occupied for many hours. The beautiful cottage was very spacious, not to mention the wildlife & pets surrounding us! Canoeing down Dordogne awesome, Chez Edith 5 course 11 euro lunch on terrace a must (several times)
Sohanpal family (August 2011) We've been coming to France for a few years and this is the most relaxing holiday we've ever had. What a beautiful part of France - the region far exceeded our expectations & Villereal is fab! You are so lucky to own Lartigue. This place has made us stay put and enjoy ourselves. David & Jennifer thanks for your hospitality - the advice and horse riding lessons were priceless. We are leaving relaxed but sad to go!
Townes family (August 2011) Thank you for another amazing holiday at Moulin de Lartigue. The hot sunny weather ensured many afternoons by the pool & BBQs. Key highlights this visit ... 14km paddle down the Dordogne .... breathtaking scenery .... an adventurous morning at Parc en Ciel, suitable for all ages. A holiday to remember!
