The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
The house is located within easy reach of the town of Carcassonne with its famous medieval castle, as well as the Mediterranean beaches, the Spanish border (Barcelona 3hrs drive) and the Pyrenees.
The nearest town of Limoux sits on the river Aude and centres around a large town square which is bordered by bars, cafes & restaurants and hosts the town’s lively market every Friday.
Getting there is cheap and quick either with EasyJet or BA from Gatwick to Toulouse or Stanstead to Carcassonne with RyanAir.com
The Villeneuve Les Montreal area
The house is located in a village called Villeneuve Les Montreal and is situated approximately 20 minutes from Limoux and 15 minutes from Carcassonne. Villeneuve Les Montreal is typical of a sleepy circulade village of the region where the pace of life is very slow but you may find yourself here when there is a local fete and then there will be dancing in the streets literally.
Limoux is renowned for its sparkling wine Blanquette de Limoux said to predate champagne. It has to be tried and where better than at the summer night market held every week in July and August. Market day is every Friday in Limoux and Monday in the medieval and historic square of Mirepoix.
There is a local supermarket open daily and the nearby market town of Bram (6km) has an even larger supermarket again open daily.
The adults and children's pools and tennis courts in Montreal are well worth a visit - tennis is free and the pools only costs a few euros.

BA - Gatwick to Toulouse - just over an hours drive (95km), taking the A61 south exiting at Junction 22 (Bram)..
Ryanair - Stansted to Carcassonne (30 mins) and Bournemouth to Girona (Spain) (2hrs 30mins).
Flybe - Southampton to Perpignan (approx 1 hr 30mins).
