About the home
This modern villa at the foot of the Albere mountains has a pool and three terraces ideal for outdoor living (sun and shade) in this part of France where the sun shines on average 300 days in the year. The house is elevated and enjoys a spectacular view of the local mountains to the South and one can see the Mediterranean sea in the distance to the East. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a toilet while downstairs there is a 4th bedroom with French doors and terrace, a toilet and a bathroom which has a bath with shower as well as a wash hand basin and washing machine. The living and dining room areas are one with two French doors and a fire place. The kitchen is small but very functional and well equipped.
This house is in a serene and very private setting ideal for chilling out. The local village has the bare essentials in the form of a bakery, grocery shop, post office, hairdresser, restaurant, and several take away foods. A very short distance away to several neighbouring villages provides access to further restaurants and shops including a Carrefour hyper/supermarket. The beach is only 20 minutes away and here one can pursue and seek out all activities and shopping that come with the tourism industry, including bazaars, water-parks, endless restaurants and bars, etc.
In summary this house provides a very private place to chill out, an ideal base from were to walk the local mountains, or cycle the countryside - yet within a short drive to the beaches and a more touristy world depending on one's fancy. For those who like shopping and hunting for bargains Spain is just half an hour away, while contrasting interests of museums, wineries, historical towns and villages with their churches are all around.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

This location boasts the best of all worlds where French and Spanish cultures merge in Catalan tradition. This is where the Pyrenees slope into the Albere mountains and then fall into the Mediterranean Sea, all in view of Mount Canigou which is snow capped most of the year.
The local Cote Vermeille has some superbly picturesque villages such as Collioure, and a mix of small well sheltered beaches between rocky outcrops as well as the very long and more touristy beach stretching from Argeles to Canet. These contrasts provide for plenty to do and see, the nearby Spanish town of Figueres (30 min) is fantastic for fashion shopping and the Dali museum, while equally the local French villages have their attractions (Ceret is where Pablo Picasso had his summer residence and where there is now a museum in his honour).
If you are prepared to drive a little further there are the options to get into more serious outdoor activities including river rafting and of course the famous Mount Canigou.
The Villelongue dels Monts area
Villelongue del Monts is one of a number of small villages at the foot of the Albere mountains, this village has a bakery, small grocery shop, a bar and two take-away foods. This is a truly Catalan village with a charming old village church and chime as well as a very old local orthodox priory.
The neighbouring village of Laroqua (4km) has two top class restaurants, one of which has a Michelin star. This is a very peaceful location ideally suited to those seeking to savour life at a slow pace for their time away with nature close by, yet within a 15 minute drive or cycle to the busy beach (with available water sports) or night life of Argeles sur Mer offering bazaars and endless restaurants at night.
Local wines (Domaine the Biscont) can be savoured and sampled in the winery in St. Genis-des-Fontaines just down the road. The nearest golf course is at St. Cyprien about half an hour's drive away, where there are also water parks; the nearest decent supermarket is between St. Genis and St. André. In essence everything is available within a short distance while back at the ranch its all about peace and tranquillity.

Tullygarrow is really well set, the layout of the pool and garden offers everything you'd require; sunbathing, having a dip etc, you don't feel overlooked and it's very peaceful but not isolated. The garden surrounding the house means a large party can spread out and find solitude if required, or enjoy each others company on the terrace. The house offered a home-from-home vibe with various supplies provided including a well needed welcome snack and drink on our arrival. The BBQ was easy to use and we made of the most of this many evenings throughout our stay. We did hire a car which we felt we needed, it made getting there easy plus we were able to go to the local supermarkets rather than being bound to the village store. Also many of the local towns and villages are really worth a trip out to and of course the beach at Argeles sur Mer. However I'm sure you would be fine without a car as the village does have a small offering of shops and places to eat. All-in-all we felt it was a great holiday mainly due to our accommodation, we felt relaxed and refreshed and just a little sad we'd not booked a longer stay. Response: It is a great feeling for us when guests have enjoyed their stay! |

"Wrote half my book here last Autumn, I cannot thank you enough for the tranquillity not to mention all the logs we burnt to fuel our fine wines and conversations."
