The French Riviera - Cote d'Azur region

The Cote d'Azur is well known for its warm summer, temperate winter and endless sun giving light that has inspired painters for centuries. The region is best known for the sea,(Cannes, St Jean Cap Ferrat) but also for the hill top towns (Villages Perches) such Vence, St.Paul and St Agnes (with its Mediaeval Gardens).

Alternatively you'll find Villefranche a perfect base to explore the region for :

- Monaco: Opera, Cinema, Concerts, Museums, Palaces

- Nice: Opera, Galleries, Museums, Cinema, Concerts, Jazz Festival, Carnival

- Beaulieu: Villa Kerylos

- Cap Ferrat: Rothschild Villa

- Antibes: Museums and Galleries

- Beaulieu: Rothschild Villa Gardens

- Menton: Hanbury Gardens

- Le Rayol Canadel: Le Jardin des Mediterranees

- ........... the lavender fields of Provence

or maybe

- the many vineyards of Provence or check out the Roman vineyards in Nice in Bellet

- your in the right area ! Lots of local dishes with a distinct Italian slant

or perhaps

- Lots of water based ideas and golf - BUT

- Nice: Iron Man, Marathon

- Monaco: Tennis Masters, Rally, Grand Prix, Historic Grand Prix

- St Tropez: Polo

- Antibes

- Cannes

- Monaca

- Nice

............. just a couple of ideas !

Within 1.5 hours are the Alps with summer walking or winter skiing (Auron, Isola 2000, Limone). There are many golf courses close-by.

Along with St Tropez and Cannes, Villefranche is a renowned historic town originating as a fishing village going back beyond the XIII Century and with a Mediaeval Citadel of the XV Century. The old streets and houses are a fascination, with their colourful decoration and 'trompe l'oeils'.

If its Rest & Relaxation you're after, you're in good company! The Russian fleet frequently dropped anchor here in the 18thC - the Royal Navy made it a destination in the 19thC, and the US 5th Fleet thought this was home in the 20thC.

Once tired of exploring the town you'll find Villefranche a perfect base.

"Fabulous apartment"

I have just returned from a 5 night stay in this wonderful apartment, it was everything i had expected and more, as soon as i walked in the door it was a "wow" ! the sun was shining and we stepped onto the balcony and didnt want to move again, Pat had provided a starter pack with wine which we enjoyed within the hour. We had been collected from Nice and whisked to apt by Taxi, it was well worth the extra cost to prevent any hassle. Worthwhile making a trip at beginning of hol to Beaulie sur mer to the larger supermarket to stock up as very expensive at the one in Villefranche. Everything you could want in the apt to self cater, Pat also provides all towels and even toiletries. I nabbed the front bedroom and the bliss of waking up to the sound of waves lapping the shore. be prepared for lots of steps to the beach and walking up and downhill, great for the legs, we loved watching the various cruise ships coming into bay, and being above the train station was no problem as there is virtually no road noise, we cannot wait to make a return trip and cannot recommend this apt highly enough.

"Sensational view and facilities"

What a wonderful view out over the bay with its array of ships of all sizes. And the apartment itself is fantastic and so-well appointed! Pat and her husband are marvellous hosts and the only gripe I could have is access down to the apartment. Extremely narrow laneways and thank God for the GPS to get us there. Would recommend to anyone and will return one day

"lovely apartment.well placed for travel around the coast."

We aere made very welcome by Pat who provided an excellent welcome pack, including wine. It is a very well equipped apartment and clean and comfortable. It is very close to the beach, a few minutes walk. The apartment has wonderful views over the bay to villa Ephrussi ( a recommended visit- stunning) and although it also looks over the railway track we didnt find this a problem. As the train station is so close we found it very well placed for travelling to Monaco, cannes etc. Brilliant train service and cheap too. A very nice apartment in lovely Ville Franche. i believe the apartment is getting a wifi network put in and this would be great, especially for teenagers.
