About this location
The French Riviera - Cote d'Azur region
The best time to visit the French Riviera are spring and autumn. With an average temperature of about 16c/60f . Even in winter, pleasant, warm days are not unusual. The natural barrier formed, just past Nice, is Mount Baron and has prevented Villefranche becoming just another suburb of Nice. The town retains a homogenous medieval character with Italianate facades. One curiosity in the attractive old town is rue Obscure, a covered alley where the local people sheltered from pirates, and during WW II from bombs. Another source of interest is the St. Pierre chapel.
Saturday is a provencal market along the main road in front of the Office du Tourism. Sunday, antiques all day. Visit Villa Rothschild on St Jean Cap Ferrat, and enjoy a coastal walk along David Niven Way.
