Home description

Situated in a peaceful hamlet, Les Buddleias is the ideal spot for a family holiday,off the beaten track yet within easy reach of several market towns. Although in the Bergerac wine appellation, we are close to St Emilion and other Bordeaux appellations. The area is steeped in history with local chateaux, Roman excavations, Romanesque churches and the site of the last battle of the 100 years war at Castillon-la-Bataille which is re-enacted on summer evenings.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

The Dordogne is a region steeped in history from the prehistoric cave drawings in the east to the chateaux and Roman remains to the west. The Bergerac wines are relatively unknown in the UK, but the best of them compare favourably with their more expensive Bordeaux cousins. Our area of the Dordogne is one of rolling countryside, vineyards and well preserved medieval villages. St.Emilion is just a 15 minute drive away but local wine is readily available from the vineyards surrounding the house.


Villefranche de Lonchat / Montpeyroux area

Montpeyroux village, though tiny, has the Chateau de Matecoulon built by Montaigne for his brother in 1564 and a typical 13c church. There is also a newly opened restaurant/boulangerie in the square,5 minutes walk, offering traditional french fare and some spanish dishes as well as Bread items. Villefranche,3 kilometers north, is an old English bastide with a museum worth visiting. There is a small market every Tuesday. The village has 2 bars and restaurants, boulangerie, general store and pharmacy. A little further a field at Le Pizou there is a NOT TO BE MISSED gastronomic experience held in the village square every Tuesday evening in summer which encapsulteas all that is good about France and the Perigord

There are three self-contained bedrooms, two doubles, one with king-size bed, and a twin. We have two living rooms, one with satellite TV and the other for quieter pursuits - a large number of DVD's and books are there for your use. The large and airy kichen/dining room seats 8 around the traditional farmhouse table and opens out via French windows on to your private garden. The kitchen is very well equipped to a high standard. The large fully-tiled bathroom has a shower attachment and WC; the adjacent shower room with multi-jet shower also has a WC.

Further details outdoors:
The pool: for your exclusive use (no sharing) with solar shower,large paved sunbathing areas, 6 loungers and large poolside table and 6 chairs.
The garden: partly shaded by fruit trees (help yourself) with large swinging couch, gaz barbeque and large table and bench set with seating for 6.
Parking: off-road parking for two cars


Further details

On arrival, we shall be there to welcome you. We live on site but in a completely separate part of the house; we are there if you need us, but invisible (almost) if you don't.

After your journey you will welcome the cold drinks (beer, soft drinks and a bottle of our local fizzy) in the fridge, and we also leave you some fresh eggs, butter, fruit juice and milk.


Conditions

We require a 25% deposit to confirm a booking, with the balance being paid 8 weeks before arrival. We also require a separate £200 security deposit.
