Home description

Hafod is an ideal holiday home, bright and airy with all you need for a relaxing break. There is a large kitchen diner with dishwasher, microwave, large fridge freezer and larder fridge. The adjoining lounge has satellite TV and opens onto the front veranda and its stunning views over the lake and surrounding vines and countryside. There are 2 double bedrooms which also open out onto the veranda and a twin bedroom. There is a bathroom with shower, a shower room with toilet and a separate toilet. The 11 x 5m pool is secluded and has a security alarm. The pool is surrounded by a large terraced area which extends down to the house with plenty of;room for outside dining and barbecueing on the provided gas barbecue.

The village is a 5 minute walk from the house and has two bar/restaurants, a boulangerie, general store, post office and chemist. There is also a bank with a "hole in the wall". The market towns of Montpon-Menesterol and Castillon-la-Bataille are 15 minutes drive away and have all the facilities you will need, supermarkets, petrol etc.

The area is steeped in history and a visit to the Villefranche museum is recommended. The historic town of St Emilion is not far away, and the Gallo-Roman site at Montcaret is also close. The leisure lake, Lac de Gurson is 2 km away and can be seen from the veranda. The area is famous for the variety and quality of its wines, and a bottle of Chateau Montarut (2 minutes walk) will be waiting for you when you arrive.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

A historic area of South West France which belonged to the English crown until the decisive battle of Castillon la Bataille in 1453 ended the hundred years war and returned Aquitaine to the French. There is a re-enactment of the battle on summer evenings at Belves which is 6 km away. There are virtually unlimited places of interest in the area ranging from Roman remains, wonderful Romanesque and Gothic churches and chateaux. St.Emilion is just a short drive away but for the impatient your nears wine producer is out the back gate and across the lane to Chateau Montarutt.

There are two restaurants in the village. The village and surrounding villages hold a number of events throughout the main summer months. In the nearby town of Le Pizou there is a wonderful night market (euphemism for eating, drinking and dancing) every Tuesday night in July and August. Local Markets are held weekly in four local towns all within a short drive.

How to get there

Bergerac airport is 25km away and is served by Ryanair and Flybe. Bordeaux Merignac airport is 70 km away and is served by bmibaby and Flybe. Avis, Hertz and Budget have offices at both airports

All the bedrooms are newly decorated and carpeted. The rest of the house is also newly decorated with tiled floors. There is a large entrance hall which leads out to the pool and rear patio. The utility room leads off the kitchen and contains the washing machine, fridge freezer and the combi central heating boiler.

The house is detached and is not overlooked on either side and is secluded from the back lane by hedges and a locking gate.
