Large property with lobby, dining room, kitchen, shower room, bunk bed room (sleeps 2 children), lounge, double bedroom and triple bedroom (extra beds possible on request).
Lavender cottage is a recently refurbished large cottage sleeping up to 7 in three bedrooms on a secure and quiet gite complex on the edge of a typical village in Charente, France. Double bedroom upstairs and triple room (3 single beds) plus bunk bed room downstairs (2 children) . It has a terrace and bbq and use of a large garden and field, games room, laundry, parking. Well behaved pets are allowed. It is 2km from a small town Villefagnan which has shops, bars, a small market and a restaurant. It also has a swimming lake with sandy beach. It is 10km from the market towns of Ruffec, Chef Boutonne and Sauze Vausais and 15km from Civray. Kayaking on the river Charente. Angouleme is a lovely city with great restaurants about 40 minutes drive and Poitiers with its theme park Futuroscope is just over an hours drive. The sea is about 1 hour 20 minutes away with the lovely towns of La Rochelle with its aquarium and seafood restaurants, Royan and the lovely Ile de Re and Ile de Oleron making a nice day trip. The towns of Jarnac and Cognac are a short drive away where you can tour the cognac producers and sample some of their products. The countryside is mainly agricultural with fields of sunflowers in May & June. Vineyards start about 5 miles from our gites. Bikes are available for hire and there are many quiet cycle tracks.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region
One of the sunniest regions of France, relaxed and unspoilt countryside with fields of poppies and sunflowers in May and June. Typical French sleepy villages, local lake for swimming, great tracks for cycling. River Charente great for kayaking. Cities of Angouleme, Poitiers, Cognac and Limoges are short drive away. Great activities for children like Futuroscope theme park, Valley of the Monkeys, Giants of the Sky bird display, kayaking, lake swimming, water parks etc. Excellent restaurants a short drive away. Cognac wine area a short drive. Its as relaxing as you want it to be!
The Villefagnan area
Ruffec is a large market town with all facilities and excellent restaurants. Villefagnan is a small town with a lovely new restaurant and small bars, a few shops and boulangeries. Confolens has an international music/folk fesitival in August. Cognac has a blues festival in July. Many musical events locally. Angouleme has a cartoon festival in January and a car race around the ramparts in September.
