The Sardinia region

Sardinia is a small paradise in the middle of Mediterranean Sea. It has more then 4000 yrs of history. You will be overwhelmed by its ancient traditions, customs and you will be struck by its crafts, its mouth-watering food and its excellent wine. Sardinia offers many beaches, one that differs from another and despite having all a clear sea, the shades of blue varies. The countryside is a charming experience; you will find simple meadows, sunflower fields, as well as deep green vegetations, hills and mountains in which you could smell the typical mediterranean aromas. You will also find plenty places of archaeological interests throughout the regions.

Sardinia is an island of colours.

Villasimius

Villasimius is a small quite village that changes with the arrival of the good seasons. It becomes a bustling place that accommodates people of any age group.

It has a wide choice of restaurants, pizzerias, trendy bars, boutiques, craft shops, little delis and wine shops.

The tourist board office in the main square will suggest a series of excursion to do if you get bored by lying on the sun and listening to the sea.

Main activities will be water based like water skiing, snorkelling, scuba diving. Horse riding and golf also available. You will also be able to go on a boat trip and visit two little islands nearby.

"Lovely apartment, town and island"

We stayed at 2C1 La Collina in July last year had a really good time. I wrote this at the time but never got round to posting it!

The drive from Cagliari airport to La Collina was fairly easy (using a Sat Nav!). Elisabetta's sister met us on arrival and showed us around the apartment . We were able to park the car on the road next to the apartments most days, there is an underground car park if necessary.
La Collina is a lovely middle sized apartment in a terrace of other similar apartments. As the terrace is built on a hillside the steps down to the apartment are a little steep. The apartments have a communal swimming pool which looked OK but we did not use it.
The apartment itself is well appointed, very clean, tastefully decorated with an efficient air conditioning system (Sardinia gets HOT!) The Bedroom is a good size with a comfortable bed. The bathroom is modern and clean with plenty of hot water. The Kitchen / living room is nice and airy with a well stocked bookcase. All the appliances worked well. (but do not put on the Fan oven, air con and hot water boiler all at the same time as this trips the relay)
The apartment has a part covered patio with a brick built barbecue and some colourful mature plants. We used the yard every evening to eat and generally relax. Ipod on, candles lit, glass of wine, barbequed chicken …. Pavarotti-on-the-Patio…. lovely! It is has a nice community feel, you can hear others enjoying their evening but never intrusive. The patio also has a cold shower, fantastic after a hard day of Nurage bagging!!(more later).

La Collina is very well situated for the best supermarket in Villasimius only a 5 min walk away, the town centre is walkable in about 20 mins. The beach is not really a walkable distance. There are a couple of hotels with restaurants within 10 mins walk, one with a barbecue that looked good but we did not have time to try it. We tried most of Elisabetta's restaurant recommendations which were all very good, we particularly liked Il Miraggio at Campus beach with a table on the sand. (Top tip …. Don't go too early in the evening or you could have men in spedos leaping around on the beach in front of your table putting you off your fish).

We hired a car and would certainly recommend doing so if you want to explore the surrounding area. We visited most of the iconic beaches in Villasimius , they are beautiful but were busy. If you don't mind a walk and in some cases a bit of a scramble you can find quiet and pretty beaches. The coast road towards Costa Rei is beautiful, fabulous views on every twist and turn. Taking a trek into the hills near Cala Pira to look for the 3 thousand year old bronze age Nuraghe feels quite adventurous, no signs, they just stick out of bushes, little shade and very hot,. We saw no one else maybe they had more sense. Nuraghe are ancient tower like structures that were built all over Sardinia.

I suggest buying a tourist map of the area from the town book shop, the ones available in the UK were too small a scale.
I would recommend La Collina to anyone looking for a quality yet cost effective stay in Villasimius.

"Beautiful Island, best beaches, lovely appartment"

We had a lovely stay in the apartment this July! The apartment was spotless and had everything we needed! The patio area was lovely to sit out in and the BBQ was very useful to cook on in the heat!

We didn't hire a car for our trip, but took up your offer of the airport transfer which was so useful and Carolina and her husband did a great job and were very kind!

It would have been great to have a car, but we made use of the local Easymius bus that took us to the main beaches and the port! Next time we will hire a car I think to see more, but we managed fine and the walk to the supermarket and the town itself was not far.
We would recommend the boat trip from the port on the Matilda which was by far our best day, sailing, snorkling and visiting the islands and beautiful beaches!

We took a day trip to Cagliari on the ARST bus and explored for the day and we tried out the Aquarius and La Lanterna as you suggested! Both great restaurants!
The area is beautiful and we would love to come back some day! People were really helpful and kind as were you with all your help in planning our trip!

Many thanks again Elisabetta!
