About the home

Our three bedroomed apartment sits just above the centre of the charming traditional village of Gryon, ideally situated for those seeking a quiet retreat or a more active holiday. Whether you want to sit on the terrace and wonder at the view whilst absorbing the tranquillity or walk, hike, mountain bike or ski the mountains, this is the place for you.

This newly created home was once part of a hotel, and has been furnished and equipped to a high standard, giving guests modern convenience in an old setting. The apartment is light and airy, with views from every window, and a log stove to warm in front of after an invigorating day in the mountain air.

Croissants for breakfast or provisions can be bought from the village shops (small supermarket, laiterie, butchers) just a few minutes walk away. There are also two restaurants serving local food and wines.

Walks, hiking and mountain biking are straight from the door, skiing is just over 2km away at the Barboleusaz gondola, which has free parking, and transports straight to the slopes, very easy with children. The ski/bike hire shop and the Tourist information centre are also in Barboleusaz.

There is furniture for lounging and dining and an electric BBQ on the large South facing terrace. There are two further small balconies, one off the main bedroom and one of f the lounge.
En suite is a shower room.

A washing machine, tumble dryer, and ski locker are available in the basement, as is a games room with table tennis and table football. (Bats etc in the flat.)
Bose Ipod docking station in lounge.

The Swiss Alps / Vaud/Lake Geneva/Swiss Alps region

Villars/ Gryon is ideally located on the south facing slopes of the beautiful Swiss Alps above the Rhone valley in the French speaking canton of Vaud. At an altitude of 1100-1300 the climate is perfect in summer or winter, with dry air and crystal clear views. Surrounded by mountains, meadows and vineyards, it is the perfect place to holiday; summer or winter, active or relaxed, for a family, a couple, or friends. Magically, Villars caters for all.

The surrounding area offers the elegant Montreaux where you can promenade along the northern shores of Lake Geneva, or catch a boat to Evian on the southern French side of the lake. The historic Chateau de Chillon, and the beach at Villeneuve are also worth a visit. For families the Aqua park, Park Aventure, and Adventure Labyrinth are all fun. For the more adventurous hot air ballooning, canoeing and climbing are all possible.
The salt mine in Bex, in the Rhone valley below Gryon is very interesting, but to relax the spa baths at Lavey les Bains should not be missed. At over 3000m the glacier at Les Diableret should be visited winter and summer.

The Villars, Switzerland / Gryon area

In Winter Gryon/Villars is a typical family ski resort and is a good base for the many snow based activities on offer in the area: 160km of down hill skiing, iceskating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and toboganning.
Once the snow melts the spring flowers can be enjoyed from the miles of designated mountain trails accompanied by the sound of the cow bells. For the more active there are mountain bike trails, paragliding, tennis courts, swimming pools and the Villars golf course with its spectacular mountain views.

By Air
Fly to Geneva from there it is an easy drive of about 1 .5 hours, 76miles, around the northern shores of Lake Geneva to the apartment, or a little over 2 hours by train.
Scheduled airlines flying to Geneva include British Airways www.ba.com , and Swiss Air www.swiss.com.
Easyjet also flies to Geneva from most airports in the UK. www.easyjet.com


By train
To catch the train from Geneva airport tto the apartment take the Brig train to Bex and then the connecting mountain railway to Gryon. (www.sbb.ch )

It is possible to catch the Eurostar to Paris this connects with the TGV to Lausanne(3.5hrs). At Lausanne catch the connecting train for Brig getting off at Bex. The scenic rack and pinion railway will then take you up the mountain to Gryon station.(600m from the apartment) www.eurostar.co.uk or www.tgv-europe.com

Car hire
All of the large hire companies are present at Geneva airport, when booking it is easier to book Swiss side not French side of the airport. If coming in winter it is best to order a ski pack which includes winter tyres.

“Return to my childhood mountain playground” We had a lovely five days. The weather was wonderful high up in the mountains clean air and wonderful views. The village of Gryon is were my aurnt lives and i was very keen to spend some time with her with my family. had a lovely five days. The weather was wonderful high up in the mountains, clean air and wonderful views. The village of Gryon is where my aunt lives and I was very keen to spend some time with her with my family. The apartment was great. Originally a hotel it has converted well. It is extremely well appointed and very easy to use with great balconies, which were very safe even for the girls. The old village bar “cafe des alp” is still there and the cooking is good. I remember my first new years disco there when I was 11. The local butcher, super market, cheese shop and bakery have every thing you need and the people are very friendly. We went to the local tourist office at Barbalouse and got the booklet with the children's free passes for the local trains and bubble car ride to les chaux where I learnt to ski in leather lace up books and long skis over forty years ago. The train ride was a highlight and the meal at the top wonderful eating out side in the sunshine couldn't have been better. Highly recommended
