Home description
Situated in the heart of the village and only a few minutes’ walk from the train station, Chalet Jean Marie is a converted and extended 18th century farmhouse. The building has six apartments, one of which is permanently occupied. This apartment is on the ground floor and from the south-facing patio has spectacular views across the valley to the Grand and Petit Muverans. This is a perfect retreat for couples, although it can sleep three.
Gryon is a quiet, peaceful village, but it is the centre of a thriving commune and, unlike many other villages, still supports several shops. The chalet is perfectly situated for walkers and cyclists – many of the numerous hiking and biking trails are accessible straight from the apartment. In winter, the nearby ski area of Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets and Glacier 3000 gives access to all winter sports. The resort of Villars, with its many restaurants and shops, is only minutes away by mountain train. Thanks to the excellent public transport, a car is not a necessity here, although there is free parking in the village.

The Swiss Alps / Vaud/Lake Geneva/Swiss Alps region
The Alpes Vaudoise overlook the Rhone Valley and Lac Leman towards the French Alps. The beautiful chateaux at Montreux and Aigle are within easy reach, as are the pretty villages of Bulle, Gruyeres and Gstaad. The shops, restaurants and museums of Lausanne and Montreux, and the lovely vineyards of the region – in particular, the 11th century terraces of Lavaux, which are now a Unesco World Heritage site – provide the perfect excuse to indulge in a little sight-seeing, shopping and wine-tasting.
Villars, Switzerland / Gryon area
On the sunny slopes of Mont Jorogne, Gryon is a true mountain village that has successfully held on to its charm and culture. Perched on a a south-facing precipice, overhanging the valley created by the Avançon river and with magnificent views over the Muverans, the village is an unspoilt collection of traditional wood chalets. The resort of Villars, with its extensive range of shops and restaurants, is only minutes away by mountain train or car.
The area offers every sort of sport, relaxation and culture in an idyllic setting. Featuring a spectacular panorama extending from Lake Geneva to Mont Blanc, the region is a paradise for walkers and mountain cyclists – in summer, more than 300km of marked hiking trails and 150km of all-terrain bicycle trails give everyone the chance to explore the beautiful countryside. Discover the historic mountain villages and restaurants, and climb into the high Alps to view the glaciers of Vaud.
For the less intrepid, there’s the 18-hole golf course at an altitude of 1,600m, a sports centre with swimming pool, and public tennis courts in both Gryon and Villars. The Villars-Gryon Freedom Pass allows visitors free use of many services in summer, including all mountain transport and sports facilities. In winter, the mountain train and two telecabines give access to the 77 ski lifts of the Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets and Glacier 3000 ski area. Cross-country skiers will find 220km of marked trails, and non-skiers can try the range of other winter activities, including snow shoeing, sledging and ice skating.

Further details indoors: The apartment has been refurbished and furnished to a very high standard, with oak floors throughout. The spacious living/dining/kitchen is light and airy, and has two sofas, one of which is a single sofa-bed. The double bedroom is cool and calm, and also has a door to the exterior. The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of storage space for clothes, including a chest of drawers and a wardrobe with hangers. The bathroom has a shower (no bath), toilet and wash basin. The apartment has a TV (Swiss channels only), DVD player, a selection of DVDs, CD player with a few CDs, games, playing cards and a selection of books.
Further details outdoors: A small sunny south-facing patio equipped with table and chairs, with a wonderful view of the valley and the mountains. Hiking and bike trails straight from the apartment door.
