The Swiss Alps / Vaud/Lake Geneva/Swiss Alps region
Summer
In summer the main activities are hiking, mountain biking and golf. You can choose from over 300 km of signposted footpaths and 150 km of mountain bike routes. A beautifully scenic 18-hole golf course located at 1600 m allows you to play golf in the heart of the mountains, with views of Mont Blanc.
Other sporting activities include an educational woodland walk with a picnic hut, Nordic walking trails, sports centres with climbing walls and a via ferrata (fixed-cable climb) near Les Diablerets.
There are exciting theme parks and places for excursions just nearby: AquaParc and Swiss Vapeur Parc in Bouveret, the adventure park in Aigle (rope park), the adventure maze in Evionnaz, the working salt mine in Bex, "Fun Planet" near Villeneuve, the delightful Montreux and swimming or water sports on Lake Geneva.
The Villars, Switzerland / Villars Village area
Winter
The skiing area of Villars incorporates the two smaller areas of Villars/Bretaye and Gryon and is also linked with the Les Diablerets skiing area, including a glacier skiing area at 3000 m. Altogether, this creates a skiing arena with 77 lifts and 220 km of ski slopes.
In addition there are four snowparks, a snow kindergarten, 44 km of cross-country skiing trails, sledging runs and numerous winter walking routes; not to mention a lively apres-ski scene. Those in need of relaxation can visit the amenities and wellness centres at the thermal baths in Lavey.

The chalet was virtually impossible to find, even though the owners had given instructions! Once inside (and that was a real challenge!) none of the internal doors to the other chalets and their facilities were named and it was very much guesswork in tracking down things like the laundry room and the actual appartment! The entire building is virtaually empty and we only saw one other car in a carpark meant for about 50! The sleeping arrangements have been misrepresented - it is really only suitble for a couple with small children and although the owners describe it as having two doubles, one is a sofabed in an extension of the lounge, with sliding doors. The other room has a very poorly made bunk bed that would only take the weight of young children and a small short chid's bed. We were reduced to putting my 15 year old daughter on two matresses on the floor and moving the tiny bed! My son 17 (and 6ft 2") used the sofa bed. Although they didn't want to share, there was no way they could have anyway! Also, in using up the sofabed, there was not enough seating in the living room for four adult sized people and we ended up squashed together, although none of us is overweight! The bedding, although clean, was incredibly crumpled and had definitely not seen an iron ever. The heating was very poor - it is all controlled by a central building thermostat that you really have no control over . There is underfloor heating that works in part of the chalet, but not in the main living area. We were reduced to buying wood at £10 an evening for using the log burner which had a safety screen that warped every time you used it, so you couldn't then shut it! The owners advice with internet usage was that you had to top up a mobile device but they themselves hadn't actually tried it using the Co Op (as they recommended). We struggled big time with their other advice too of using some bank machines, but that didn't work either. Thankfully the owner did it in the UK for us, so in the end, it was OK. Overall, the chalet is overpriced and although fairly clean and in quite a good position, it is not somewhere we would recommend. Previously (over the last three years) we have stayed in different private chalet in Villars, with internet and much more space, for around £3oo. |
