El chorro lakes 40 mins.
Iznajar lake 20 mins.
Sierra Nevada Ski resort 1 hr 30 mins.
Well situated for easy motorway access to Granada, Cordoba, Seville and Malaga.
The charming town of Antequera is approx. 30kms with interesting attractive Baroque architecture, many impressive churches, Moorish castle with gardens above town, ancient bull ring & excellent shopping facilities.
Coast/Beach
Lake Iznajar (approx. 20 mins). There is a large beach where you can swim, sail, canoe or windsurf in the summer months. Pedaloes also for hire. Beachside cafe/restaurant. Amenities do vary from year to year but the swimming and restaurants are always there!
The Costa del Sol lies approx. 50 mins away and offers a huge choice of beaches. There are many coastal attractions that are ideal for children such as water parks to be found at Velez-Malaga, Mijas, and Torremolinos. At Selwo there is a marina/dolphinarium and safari park. At Tivoli there is a theme park with rides. There is the zoo at Fuengirola and a crocodile park at Torremolinos.
Golf
There is a golf club in Antequera offering a superb 18 hole par 72 course, measuring 6,030 metres, with a total of 10 lakes. It was designed by Jose Maria Canizares and is situated approx. 650 metres above sea level. Set amidst superb mountain scenery. The first half of the course provides views over the Antequera plains, the second half is situated at the foot of the famous El Torcal mountains. The course lies approx 30 mins away. It worth a round just for the scenary! Always ask if they have any 'deals' on as they frequently do.
There is also a large choice of courses along the Costa del Sol within a 50 minute drive.
Skiing
The Sierra Nevada Ski resort lies approx. 1 hour 30 mins drive to the east, near Granada. Excellent facilities cater for all abilities, offering hire of all skiing equipment, including a dedicated snow-board area. Husky dog sledge rides and snow bikes are for hire. The resort is also a great favourite for walkers in winter and summer (National Park area)
Inland Andalucia is ideal for exploring all the major cultural destinations. Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Ronda, Antequera, Malaga and the Costa del Sol are all close enough for day trips. A new motorway means that Cordoba is now just an hour and a half away, Seville is just under 2 hours, Ronda about 2 hours, and the other destinations within the hour. The slopes at Sierra Nevada are just an hour and a half away.
Antequera is the closest city (half an hour) and has many attractions to visit. It also has hypermarkets, large supermarkets and a large cinema complex. El Torcal, a natural park with limestone formations is just less than 30 mins from Antequera. It is an ideal place for walking and really is quite incredible - well worth a visit.
The historic town of Iznajar is just 20 minutes away with its medieval church and Moorish castle perched high above the beautiful lake of Andalucia. Iznajar has a good selection of bars, restaurants and small supermarkets. There are also two bar/restaurants on the beach giving wonderful views of the lake, particulalry lovely at sunset on a summer's evening.
Rute is 30 minutes away and is the home of Anis production, (the aniseed liquor). There's a museum dedictated to its manufacture. Rute has a large supermarket with ample parking.
The baroque town of Priego de Cordoba set in the Subbetica Natural Park is just an hour away and has many places to explore, including the castle. There are also 16 or so churches and lots of good restaurants and bars.
The area is quite hilly mainly set to olive groves (very pretty formations). Spectacular mountains can always be seen somewhere in the view!
Temperatures in the summer get very warm but then, almost without fail, a breeze comes down the valley every afternoon - very pleasant!
In the winter the skies are often just as blue as in the summer and I have spent Christmas Eve sitting by the pool in shirt sleeves! Once the sun goes down in the evening it does get cold and the mornings are often crisp and frosty - ideal for a walk!
The Villanueva de Tapia area
The area is great for walking. You just need to pull on your boots and head off! Most farmland is accessible and provides all types of walking from gentle to challenging.
Horse-riding stables are just 15 minutes away and it's possible to go for an hour, a half day or a full day's riding. All ages and abilities can be catered for.
Iznajar / Tapia/ Fuente del Conde area
The local village of Fuente del Conde is just 15 minutes away. It has a lively bar/restaurant with a great terrace giving fantastic views of the Andalucian sunsets. The village also has a small well-stocked supermarket. The village fiesta takes place each year on 1st, 2nd and 3rd May when there are plenty of activities including a clay pigeon shooting competition, horse-riding, free paella and lots of dancing till dawn.
Tapia has it's festival the 2nd weekend of October.
Other activities
Try the LOBO PARK. A real wolf park where you can watch the wild animals in their environment. It is possible to feed them (although you will have to talk to the man in charge before) and also have a barbaque in the lovely scenery of Malaga mountains.
THE DONKEY SANCTUARY. It may not sound very exciting but here you can learn about what life was really like in rural Spain. You can even ride the donkeys!
QUADS, BICYCLES AND HORSE RIDING. Just follow the country roads! There are specified routes which will take you to stunning points with the best views in the area or just have a look around yourself.
And don´t forget fishing, water sports on the lake, climbing, tennis, drinking and eating!
The spaniards love a good festival and there is often the opportunity (mainly during the summer) to enjoy one. Each little town, village or city has its own festival with lots of typical food, interesting people and activities for everyone!

We've been to this beautiful stone farm house set in the Andalucian hills and olive groves for 3 years now and the solitude, sun, pool, and high standard of simple accommodation draws us back year after year. The surrounding countryside and nearby towns have lots to offer, although if you enjoy peace, quiet and great views it's hard to leave Cortijo Perdido for more than a while. The house has many aspects and levels and you can easliy find a favourite spot to relax and soak up the atmosphere, and move to another one as the sun and shade move round! It's a totally chill out place with excellent facilities of a high standard and everything you need to have a wonderful stay. |

The "lost farmhouse" is a snug , private retreat in a beautiful , secluded part of southern Spain. The swimming pool was a huge hit with kids . The house is set in a hill and surrounded by miles of olive groves. I went with the children and trekked up to the top of three hills , walking through the olive groves , to find stunning views surrounded by blue skies . The house itself is very well equipped and clean. It is well stocked with the essentials by the property managers who were there to greet us with a warm smile. The pool toys kept the kids entertained . At night we watched the fantastic sunsets and once dark we witnessed the brightness of the stars against the blackness of the night sky. We enjoyed the seclusion and the old fashioned real wood fire. We are looking forward to going again . |
