Home description
Ideal for families or small groups.Soak up the atmosphere and history of La Casa del Peregrinos,originally a resting place for travellers passing north to Santiago to the shrine of St James. The farmhouse accommodated the local bread ovens where the pilgrims would take sustenance. It has been rebuilt to luxury standard which includes under floor heating and high insulation levels to keep you cool in Summer and warm in winter. The accommodation is in two parts, the rebuilt farmhouse with bedrooms 1,2 and 3 and the casita (small house) with en-suite bedrooms 4 and 5. Cool off in or sip your cocktails around your private pool with panoramic mountain views before enjoying al fresco eating under the pergola.
Stroll to the local restaurant for a cooling drink or a first class meal. Drive to the nearby wonder of El Torcal Mountain range ideal for walking and bird watching. Granada, Cadiz, Seville and Cordoba are all within a two hour drive.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
La Casa del Peregrinos is easily reached within one hour's drive from Malaga airport and the beaches of the Costa del Sol. Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba can be reached within two hours. The hamlet/barrido of Pastelero with two bars/restaurants is within walking distance, and the white villages of Villenueva de la Concepcion (market day Monday) and Almogia (market day Tuesday) are 15 minutes away.
The bustling market town of Antequera (market day Tuesday) is twenty minutes away. Its historic sites of interest include the prehistoric Dolmens (burial chambers), Roman remains, a Moorish castle, and the Renaissance and Baroque architecture of the town, including its 32 churches. Antequera Golf is also nearby. The casa has views of Alora & El Chorro in the distance. Close at hand is the El Torcal National Park with its many species of wildflowers it is popular with walkers, birdwatchers and nature lovers. Other local places of interest include the turquoise lakes of El Chorro Gorge.
10 klm in either direction brings you to the famous white towns of Almogia & Villaneueva de la Concepcion, Almogia is reputed to be the birthplace of Verdiales (music) & large contests are held several times during the summer with 20+ pandas (bands) taking part.Villanueva de la Concepcion also hosts a large Verdiales concert during the summer along with other open air concerts & ferias

Villa Nueva de la Conception is overlooked by El Torcal natural park, a massive limestone outcrop. Take a drive to the top and look South across the valley and hills to the Mediterranean, East to the snow capped Sierra Nevada and West towards Ronda. Follow the marked walk where you will be captivated by the strange and beautiful rock formations. You may see eagles and buzzards. If you are lucky you might even catch sight of the ibex (wild goats) that make their home in Torcal. Take time out in the visitor's centre & have a look at the newly completed observatory, awaiting its telescope.
For those who enjoy a round of golf, the nearest course is in Antequera. In addition, the coast, which has an abundance of courses, is easily accessible. This is a walker's paradise, particularly outside the hot summer months. Look for a hilltop, get prepared for some roughish terrain, avoid the fierce thorns, and just follow your nose untill you get there. Expect wonderful views and, in springtime a profusion of wildflowers set against a backdrop of the greenest green you’ve ever seen.
The casa is centrally located for easy access to Seville, Granada and Cordoba. Closer at hand, the city of Malaga is a vibrant blend of old and new.In the El Torcal Park you will find the most beautiful and impressive limestone landscape in Europe. The whole area was under sea until one hundred million years ago. Then the violent movements of the Earths crust forced it upward into hills and mountains up to 1300 m., the limestone still kept its layered horizontal formation. Wind and rain chiselled away to form incredible shapes. The Park is very popular with hikers. Footpaths lead from the visitor centre in the middle. Walks of up to two hours are marked by yellow arrows, longer walks by red. The park is also a pleasure for natural historians, with fox and weasel populations, and colonies of eagles, hawks and vultures. It also protects rare plants and flowers. Orchid enthusiasts will be captivated by the 30 varieties of the plant growing in the park. The experience of Torcal is a "MUST" when you visit Andalucia.
How to get there
La Casa del Peregrinos is approximately 1 hour from the airport. Many flight operators offer cheap deals to Malaga. From Malaga airport follow the signs to Malaga. Follow the ring road (A15) with Malaga on your RHS, then follow the signs to Antequera. This will take you north on the N331 / A45. After 15.3Km turn off to Casabermeja. This take you to a Repsol garage. Continue across the roundabout and take the town bypass (first exit at the roundabout) which runs alongside the motorway following signs to Villanueva de la Conception which is a left turn at the T junction. After 11.8 Km you will arrive in the village. Go up the hill to the junction and take a left turn to Almogia (not Antequera). Follow this road for aprox 7 Km, (Do not turn off).On reaching Pastererlo (Venta on LHS) take a right up the hill with the street lights to the first right turn, continue and the casa is the second turn on the Left down a short drive. The gates will be open to welcome you.

Further details indoors: Because La Casa del Peregrinos has a main house and a casita (small house) you have the advantage of large family or group areas yet separate, private sleeping space where you can retreat and relax in peace. As well as the four double beds and two single beds we can supply extra beds or cots for children in parent's room on request.
Further details outdoors: The houses are situated in 4 acres of private ground with almond and fig trees. Both houses have balconies with fantastic long distance views where you can relax before a swim in the private pool. The new outdoor Summer kitchen has a traditional Spanish brick barbecue. This is a peaceful area with a massive Moorish table. Venta Pasterlero renowned for its food and atmosphere is within walking distance of the casa. Antequera is only 40 minutes away Malaga city 45 minutes. The local village of Villanueva with its many restaurants and shops is a 10 min drive away. Secure parking and garage space for up to 9 motor bikes.
