About this location
The Valenciana region
The stunning Costa Blanca, situated between the two other well-known areas of Costa Brava to the north and Costa del Sol in the south, is within the region of Valencia with the warm Mediterranean on its shores.
Known as the 'White Coast', Costa Blanca has been a favourite area for tourists for many years. Encircled by the beautiful Crevillente mountain range to the west and the Mediterranean Sea on its eastern shores Costa Blanca's superb weather of 320 days of sunshine creates high summer temperatures with winter temperatures in the high teens and twenties.
Costa Blanca is full of history from the El Barrio (Old Moorish Town) in Alicante to the naval city of Cartegena with wonderful Churches and historic sites.
Beaches and coves stretch from Alicante to Cartegena many being blue flag and swept clean daily.
ALICANTE is 40 minutes drive away and with its beautiful palm-lined boulevard and pleasant shopping street is one of the most well-known cities on the Costa-Blanca. Costa Blanca owes its name to Greek traders who founded the colony Akra Leuka (blank foothill) about 2500 years ago, not far from where Alicante now is. Approximately 400 years later the Romans called the province capital Lucentum (city of lights) and the characters A.L and L.A (Lucentum Alicante) can been seen on the flag of Alicante.
The surrounding countryside offers visitors, mountains, forests and castles towering on hilltops and of course there are also the numerous beaches and marinas.
Alicante is the capital of the province. It is a vibrant city with a modern harbour and marina complex surrounded by excellent restaurants and bars. It boasts everything one would expect of a big city from its small pavement cafes to the extensive shopping possibilities. There is a very 'Valencian style' about the city.
The Barro Santa Cruz – the renowned old Moorish quarter – gives the tourist an opportunity to see Spain away from the beaches and bars and a feeling of life as it may have been in history.
The Castle of Santa Barbara – the 16th century military fort- perches 180 metres above the city and offers magnificent views of the surrounding area together with the possibility to visit it's small yet impressive museum.
TORREVIEJA is a typical and genuine Spanish town with narrow alleys, louvered windows and traditional shops to attract the many tourists who visit the area. The town has an excellent indoor market, which is open every day and where deliciously fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and spices are displayed and sold by the typically Spanish stallholders.
Each Friday sees the centre of Torrevieja become a colourful market place where a superb selection of Spanish handicrafts, leather jackets, gloves, bags, baskets, shoes, pottery, textiles and souvenirs is available at excellent prices.
Local restaurants are a wonderful source of “tapas” (small Spanish snacks) and chilled local wine and beers. Costa Blanca wines comes from Monovar, Pinoso, Villena and Benejama and are a must for the discerning visitor. Torrevieja boasts more than 150 restaurants offering, for example, French, Austrian, English, Italian, Chinese and Indian food.
THE MAR MENOR is a part of the Mediterranean Sea separated by a thin strip of land 22 kilometres long. The 'Lake' thus formed is shallow and has an even temperature around 18 degrees Celsius all year round. It is used as an aquatic playground for swimming, sailing, diving and windsurfing together with the typical pastime of this part of the world – sunbathing.
The thin strip of land is called the “La Manga Strip” and the world-renowned golf complex of La Manga makes this part of Spain very popular.
The Mar Menor is situated in the south east of the Region of Murcia, a natural “swimming pool” spanning 25 kilometres in length, 12 kilometres wide and no deeper than 7 metres. Towns such as San Pedro offer mud lakes for you soak away your aches and pains.
CARTEGENA. The port of Cartagena, in the Mediterranean's Costa Cálida, has been prized since Carthaginian times. Thanks to its strategic position on the Murcia coast, it has been inhabited by several cultures which have left their mark on its artistic heritage. A tour of the place and its museums will draw you into the history of a city closely tied to the sea. A boat journey around the bay allows you to explore the Fort.
The entrance to the city centre is dominated by the Town Hall, a gem of modernist architecture dating from the early 20th century. The Old Cathedral is located on the Camino del Parque Torres (behind the Muralla del Mar wall). This is the oldest place of worship in Cartagena (13th century), and stands on the remains of a Roman theatre discovered in 1987. This construction dates from the first century A.D., and together with the theatre in Mérida, is one of the most important in Spain. The items found on this site can be seen in the Museum of the Roman Theatre.
GOLF. Why not enjoy a golfing break at some of the best golf courses in Europe. The Costa Blanca is renowned for its world-class golf courses. There are no fewer than five 18 hole golf courses located within easy reach, with more courses for you to experience if you wish to travel a little further.
Villamartin Golf Course -Designed by Paul Putman and opened in 1972 Villamartin was one of the original golf courses built in Torrevieja. Well worth a play, and known for hosting the 1994 Mediterranean Open. A challenging par 72 measuring 6.132 metres.
Las Colinas de Campoamor Golf - is an exclusive world class championship golf course surrounded by over 10,000 hectares of Mediterranen woodland, it offers superb views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor lagoon. The course is in a valley surrounded by hills where the golf course blends naturally into the landscape.

El Valle - This mid-size, par 71 golf course is located in a beautiful desert valley. Designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus and a part of the award winning Nicklaus Golf Trail. Instead of size, the course is orientated towards creating difficulties and challenges for the player. El Valle Golf blends effortlessly into the landscape.
Lo Romero - A very nice par 72 course stretching over 6,230 metres with 57 bunkers & 8 lakes coming into play (especially the spectacular 18th with an island green).
OTHER SPORTS: The region also boasts, sailing, scuba diving, go-kart centres, aqua parks, and theme parks.
Markets and shops are in abundance with festivals and carnivals all year round. The numerous restaurants and bars serve many ranges of very high quality yet low cost food for the cosmopolitan nature of its tourists and residents.

Newly opened is the La Zenia Boulvard shopping centre with over 120 retail outlets from designer stores to high street favourites. Free car parking for 5000 cars and plenty of café's, bars and restaurants. This is a shoppers paradise, and to entertain the children, there is a large play area, bowling alley and games machines. For the younger kids a water fountain in the square can cool them down!!!
