About this location

The Valenciana region

Situated on the east coast opposite the Balearic Islands Valencia Province is steeped in history and tradition.

The scenery is surprisingly green as the mountains run down to the sea through the famous orange groves and paddy fields. The coastline is pristine with miles of golden beaches that remain relatively undiscovered by non spanish tourists. The region has something for everybody whether you are a sun worshipper, culture vulture or prefer a more active holiday.

The region has a rich legacy of architecture and traditions with many fiestas including the spectacular annual pageants that re live the Moorish invasion, The Moors and Christians. There are many little towns and villages with winding streets full of pastel painted old houses, hidden squares and surprising places for tapas and ice cold beers. It is also the home of the Paella with many local communities holding competitions over the summmer to find the best local version of the regional dish.

Valencia itself is a beatiful city with many attractions. Visit the covered market, wander the streets of the old city or head for the more recent developments like the Zoo, the Sea Life Centre or one of the many museums and parks. Also home to the Americas Cup the Marina area is continuing to draw in international visitors and the sailing fraternity alike.

Gandia is the capital of the La Safor area of Valencia and is a vibrant and historic town (the original home to the infamous Borgias!). It also has a stunning blue flag beach which is very popular with Spanish holiday makers and second home owners.

Villalonga is situated about 5 kilometres inland at the foot of the beautiful La Safor mountains. The stunning scenery and climate make the area a mecca for walkers, cyclists and visitors looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. It is an authentic Spanish village, with narrow streets and hidden squares filled with fountains , for which the area is famous, supplying fresh mountain water. There is everything you would need; a first class little supermarket (check out the fish counter!), banks, patisseries, deli, a twice weekly market and of course a selection of bars and restaurants.

Within 20 minutes you can be at a choice of beaches, all proud to hold "blue flag" status. If you want a more tourist vibe the coastal towns of the Costa Blanca are with 1 hours drive. Denia, Javea and Moraira are all well worth a visit. If you want a touch of real party life Benidorm is about 1 1/4 hours down the coast!

We have been holidaying here since 2007 and as someone once famously said "we liked it so much"... we moved out here permanently in July 2012!
