The Loire Valley / Mayenne region
If you are after unspoilt countryside, rich cultural heritage or outdoor adventure, Mayenne is the place to be.
Tucked quietly away between southern Normandy and the Loire Valley, Mayenne offers a taste of real French countryside with its undulating rural landscapes, fairytale chateaux and renowned for its beef and dairy agriculture, cider apples and outdoor pursuits it's easy to see why the region is known as the garden of France.
Mayenne like most French places takes its name from the river which flows through its centre and is now used by tourists to fish, swim, kayak or a leisurely boat trip, with its 11th Century chateau and its ornate basilica dedicated to Notre Dame. Our riverside town has the oldest castle in Europe, shops, cafes, supermarkets and restaurants.
The Loire's climate is strongly influenced by the atlantic with its lingering Autumns, mild and rainy winters, Early Springs and warm, long hot summers
Villaines la Juhel area
