The Algarve region
The Moors called it Al-Gharb, the Sunset Land.
Blessed with a mild winter climate and a sunny disposition, Portugal's playground province remains one of the most popular year-round holiday destinations in southern Europe. Lively coastal resorts spill over ribbons of golden sand in sharp contrast to the quiet villages of the hinterland, where history and tradition go hand in hand. Algarve’s coast is rich in all kinds of entertainments and animations. West of Albufeira you will find the most beautiful sites of the province, rich in long beaches and imposing cliffs. East of Albufeira you have exceptional beaches for long walks. This sunny coast is renowned for its impressive cliffs and for the picturesque small bays with inviting sandy beaches (100 miles).
History has left its indelible mark throughout this land in the shape of Stone Age megaliths, the remains of Roman villas, imposing Moorish castles and noble Gothic cathedrals. A strong maritime heritage pervades the coast, evident in the fine selection of seafood in seaside restaurants.
Climate: In summer the temperature is between 22 to 38 ºC and in winter between 15 to 20 ºC.
Faro is the capital and the gateway to Algarve, the southern province of Portugal, where the sky is always blue, and the sun shines brightly. The Algarve summer, moderated by cool Atlantic breezes, is dry and warm. The superb spring and autumn seasons have an air quality that makes colours dazzle with brilliance. The temperate winters offer the shirt-sleeve weather.
The Algarve is without doubt Portugal's most popular holiday region. Well-known resorts on this coast include Albufeira, Vilamoura and its well-known marina, Quinta do Lago, Praia da Rocha, Lagos,Portimao and Sagres making it so special.
There you will also find premier golf courses: Pine Cliffs , The Old Course, Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago being only some of them.
The Algarve's Central Region, where Vilamoura and Boliqueime are located, encompasses the busiest coastal resorts as well as remote inland hamlets. It's an area of widely contrasting character, with superb golf courses, beautiful golden beaches and wild rolling hills.
The area enjoys many restaurants in Vilamoura, Boliqueime, Almancil and Vale do Lobo, offering local and international food, snack bars, pastry shops, pharmacies, banks.
Vilamoura is ideally located, offers the commercial structure for day-to-day needs and is bursting with sporting and leisure facilities for the whole family. It is a place for rest and relaxation but also for pursuing active pastimes and sports; a friendly and safe residential haven, but also a vibrant and exciting night-life centre. With its glamorous reputation and celebrity status, Vilamoura is the resort choice, where the yacht set and jet set rub shoulders. The boardwalk is also the jumping-off point for coastal cruises on graceful schooners, and marlin fishing expeditions. The region as a whole is of great environmental and historical significance - the wetland surrounding the resort is a protected nature reserve, and the Cerro da Vila is one of the most important Roman sites in Portugal. (Museu Cerro da Vila). In Almancil we can find one of the most resplendent treasures, the 18th-century Igreja Matriz de São Lourenço, with outstanding azulejos panels.
In Boliqueime - last Thursday of the month, in Quarteira - every Wednesday of the week, in Loulé - every Saturday morning, in Almancil - 1st and 4th Sunday of the month.
Flea markets: in Almancil, 2nd Sunday of the month.
Popular São João fair in Boliqueime is celebrated in the weekend near the 24th of June each year:
with handicraft, folklore, music, local food from the Algarve that attracts many visitors all over the Algarve.
Some of the local Attractions:
Aqualand- Europe's biggest open-air waterpark, set in a landscape of shady palms and trim gardens with lots to do between getting dunked. Estrada Nacional N125, Alcantarilha. (within 20 minutes drive).
The Zoomarine - a theme park, part zo, part funfair- is located in the Main Local Road, Estrada Nacional N125, at Guia, within 20 minutes drive.
Roma Mini-Golf Park- near the marina in Vilamoura, where life-sized replicas of villas, arcades and an amphitheatre reflect the Roman theme designed around the layout.
Karting - If you like to race in a karting car with your friends and family there is a go-karting track at Almancil (10 minutes from the house).
Vilamoura is reachable within 5 minutes drive. There you will find the famous world class golf courses, minigolf, the popular Marina of Vilamoura, Lusomundo Cinema (films in english), bowling and the gorgeous beaches of the Marina and Praia da Falésia. The Marina of Vilamoura has fantastic boats, international restaurants, shops, bars like Figo's Bar "7", "El Salero", "Irish Pub" and "In bar" (with Sky sports, large screens, live music, karaoke). The biggest disco in the Algarve, "Kadoc Disco and Kadoc Clube" very popular for the great parties with international djs.
If you like sailing, you must try the boat trips from the cruises, departing from the Marina: with many attractions like the amazing coast, fish of the shark, conger and reef, dolphin's watching, grottes tour (some of these cruises have a barbecue or champagne option). A trip in a hot air ballon also can be booked in the marina.
Beaches of Vilamoura have blue flag, with life guards protection, there are restaurants and coffee bars. Great activities like snorkelling and deep sea fishing, jet skys, water-skiing, parasailing, banana ride, bullet ride, ringo ride, pedaloes and much more. Horse riding, shooting camp, tennis and squash courts are available nearby.
Nightlife of Vilamoura is great with the Casino and the BlackJack disco, with great shows, tematic parties like Ladies Night at Thursday are bringing more and more beautiful and famous people in here.

"A Paradise on earth"
Our stay in this house was like a dream. The house is located in a beautiful location, very quiet, with complete privacy and great comfort. The house and garden is very neatly decorated, large spaces for everyone to feel at ease.
The best is to spend sometime of the day on the numerous beaches you can find around and sometime at home to enjoy the garden and swimming pool where it is very pleasant to relax.
A car is needed for touring around the various beaches, restaurants and shopping centers. Vilamoura is a nice town with many restaurants around the marina and pleasant little shops.
For the golfers, there are many golf courses around, with great pro and beautiful courses.
We had top service at home with a cleaning lady. The owner has a full book of services available in the area and we had at home massages of great quality.
The house is great to live in for one, two or even three to four couples.
It is a place where one feels at home and wishes to come back !
Thank you very much for your so kind words regarding Casa do Cerro. We enjoy knowing that you enjoyed your stay there.

"Beautiful property with lovely pool in a perfect location"
We holidayed here with friends and kids of various ages. Loved the fact that it is in such a peaceful location (apart from the local dogs!), and yet is only a short drive to Vilamoura. We hired one car between 8 of us so had to do shuttles during our day trips but as none of the attractions are that far away, this worked well and saved us some money.
The pool and garden area with view of Vilamoura ticks all the boxes as does the BBQ and patio area, we essentially lived outside for 2 weeks. Inside the house is very well appointed, we especially loved the ensuite in the main bedroom and the large kitchen.
The house and pool were cleaned at least twice during our stay.
I recommend Zoomarine for a day trip, we also visited Aqualand, the mini golf place and the karting place, but to be honest once you get by the pool with a G&T you wont want to leave!! We loved it so much we are returning this year.
Thank you for your review on Casa do Cerro.
