The Algarve / Central Algarve region
The Algarve is the perfect holiday destination because it really does have something for everybody. It’s steeped in history, boasts all the modern amenities for a luxury holiday, very family orientated, superb sports facilities, great food and a wonderful climate! It’s easy to get to, and easy to get around. The Algarve has a unique blend of old and new.
This is a golfers paradise – with 25 courses to choose from (and more on the way), satisfaction is guaranteed. Water sports enthusiasts are spoiled for choice, as are lovers of good living – restaurants, bars, clubs abound. There are inland Nature trails, dolphin spotting, bird sanctuaries and theme parks for children of all ages.
The 160 kms of the Algarve coastline boast some of Europe’s most spectacular beaches, many holders of the prestigious Blue Flags. Choose from broad expanses of white sand, small cove beaches backed by red cliffs, beaches where cosmopolitan beach parties are a summer constant, to the pristine, deserted beaches of the Western coast.
Away from the coastline with its modern resorts it’s worth exploring the inland regions - the lush vegetation of the Monchique Mountains, traditional villages like Alte and Cacela Velha, the small villages that dot the course of the River Guadiana. Getting around couldn’t be easier – the main roads (the EN 125 and the A22) run east to west with feeder roads to the resorts to the south and inland to the north.
Vilamoura / Old Village Prestige area
The Old Village is a pleasant twenty minutes walk from the cosmopolitan Vilamoura marina. There are also reliable taxis, and a road train which stops at the Old Village. The marina contains a multitude of shops, bars, and restaurants. On each side of the marina there are two delightful extensive beaches. Generally Vilamoura is a quiet, classy residential/tourist/golfing area and tends not to be too commercialised or hectic.
This upmarket resort and marina is one of the largest in Europe. Either side of the marina, are the two large golden sandy beaches which offer a variety of water sports. This established resort is stylish and welcoming with lots of designer shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, and some night clubs, plus an international casino. Vilamoura is 20 minutes from Faro airport and fairly central to the Algarve, so hiring a car or taking a bus will easily allow you to discover other areas along the coast or into the hills. Transport in the resort is good with reliable taxis, plus a road train to see the local sights. The resort is synonimous with golf as there are six quality courses within 10 minutes. Perfect for a relaxed and fun holiday. Vilamoura marina is a 10 minute walk. Vilamoura beach or Falesia Beach is a 15 minute walk. Vilamoura tennis centre is a 5 minute walk. The nearby town of Quarteira has a daily fish and fresh produce market and a general market every Wednesday and is easily reached by bus or taxi. The inland town of Loule which is 15 minutes by car has a popular market every Saturday morning.
Local amenities include Europe's largest marina, big game fishing, beach fishing, boat trips, swimming, scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing, cycling, tennis, lawn bowls, horse riding, casino, night club, excellent restaurants, cafe's, bars, boutiques and shops. Our on-site agent can be contacted 24 hours a day and can arrange all of your holiday requirements from car hire to swimming with dolphins and discounted golf packages.
