About the home

2 bedroom apartment, sleeps 4 on the beautiful Old Village complex located conveniently just outside Vilamoura. Consists of two bedrooms, one double bed, one single bed with sofa bed in lounge, comfortably sleeping 4. One bathroom with toilet and shower.

The property has a garden terrace with BBQ facilities as well as access to three swimming pools on site. The complex itself is beautifully maintained with blossoming gardens and 18th century Portuguese architecture.

The Algarve / Central Algarve region

The Algarve really is the perfect holiday destination with pristine beaches, championship golf courses, a beautifully lush landscape and of course all the modern amenities expected of a modern European holiday destination. The region is ideally suited for family holidays with miles of golden beaches, many with blue flag awards and a vast array of water sports activities.

The west of the region is largely unspoilt and is known for its perfect beaches, beautiful Portuguese architecture and quaint untouched villages and towns including the ancient maritime city of Lagos.

Further east can be found the busy holiday resort of Albufeira which is well known for its excellent night life with many bars and clubs. Albufeira is around 15/20 minutes drive from Vilamoura.

The central/eastern Algarve is also known for its fantastic golf courses. In total there are 25 within easy reach of Vilamoura and courses can be found to suit every level of ability and budget, from crazy golf for the kids to world renowned Championship courses featured on the European Tour, this really is a golfers paradise.

One thing the Algarve is especially noted for is the fantastic food and especially fresh seafood. You are never far away from a fantastic restaurant anywhere on the Algarve.

The Algarve is also famed for its glorious weather and temperatures range in the winter between 15-20 degrees and peak in July/August to around 30 degrees with twelve hours of daily sunshine. The wet season is usually in the winter months between November and February.

The Vilamoura / Vilamoura Old Village area

The Old Village in Vilamoura is a beautifully crafted complex with quaint cobbled streets lined by colourful gardens and trees. The area has been designed with traditional 18th century architecture and has three swimming pools on site exclusively for the use of Old Village owners and guests.

The complex is quiet and child friendly, perfect for family's or couples. The Old Village also has a few excellent restaurants and a supermarket selling all the required essentials.

The centre of vilamoura is a gentle 15 minute walk away, although there is a road train service which runs regularly throughout the summer months on a daily basis to the centre of Vilamoura and the two beaches.

Vilamoura itself is centred around the huge marina (one of the largest in Europe) and is host to a huge number of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. The town itself is fairly cosmopolitan and rich although the restaurants vary in price from expensive eateries to smaller cafes and pizzerias. In the summer months the marina is bustling although the huge number of places to eat means its usually no problem finding somewhere.

To both sides of the marina are the two beaches, Vilamoura to the east and Falesia to the west. Vilamoura beach is the busiest and has a number of fish restaurants and beach cafes. Both beaches are very clean and well maintained. A number of watersports are available close to the beach as well as daily boat excursions and big game fishing trips.

Vilamoura is famous for its golf and boasts 6 excellent courses, all just a few miles outside the resort centre. The courses part of the Oceanico group include, Millenium, Laguna, Pinhal, (which surrounds the Old Village) the Old Course and Victoria - the yearly host of the Portuguese Masters. Another exellent local course is Vila Sol. All these courses can be pre-booked via agents either online or in Vilamoura. It is however advised to pre book before departing to ensure the best tee times at the busiest courses.

The nearby town of Quarteria is also worth visiting for the daily fish markets and weekly (every Wednesday) general market.

A variety of low cost airlines including easyjet, jet2, ryanair and monarch all fly to Faro Airport from numerous British Airports on a daily basis.

The transfer time from Faro airport is approximately 25-30 minutes (15 miles) and taxis are readily available outside the airport terminal. “Old Village lovely,great apartment would definitely stay again” Old Village is a beautiful clean resort, really well tended gardens and walkways ,our apartment was very clean, plenty of clean towels, bedding, maids came in around 3 times per week and had all we needed for our stay, we booked through Holiday lettings apartment 126229 (recommended it ) and owner was really helpful as in which taxis, golf courses etc. Really easy check with management company .Portugal like most places is expensive but we cooked in apartment a couple of nights as the supermarkets just 10 minutes walk away were really well equipped. There is a supermarket on site which stocks all the basics,( and my only gripe about the place is one till at all times and there may be as many as 30 people waiting to be served) its quicker to walk to the bigger ones. we ate in the Garden Princess restaurant 4 adults, 3 starters ,4 main courses, 2 rounds of drinks 130 euros didn't think it was worth it. Zanzibar same sort of order about 90 euros thoroughly enjoyed food here. Casa Del largo was nice as well. There are about 6 bars and Restaurants on Village resort so if you don't fancy walk into Marina area there is enough. you do have to pay for sun beds 1.50 euros per bed morning and afternoon, but there is grass to lay on, pool bar and snacks available but we used to take our own food and drink down. Beach is very clean but sea is freezing ! And gets really busy ,we used to walk in to Quarteria which takes about 30 mins there is a fresh fish and fruit market and the quality of food is fabulous. Went to Aquashow, ( 25 euros per adult), not a lot there but our 2 teenagers enjoyed it . All in all had a fabulous holiday and would go back and stay in same place
