The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Valencia Province region
Valencia or the Communidad Valenciana is a large region that borders Catalunya to the north, Murcia to the south and Castilla-La Mancha inland to the west. The villa is situated about 25km inland from Valencia City. Generally speaking, the climate is mild and healthy. In the summer months of July and August, temperatures hover around 30C and in winter they are bracing, though rarely hit freezing point. The skies are generally blue throughout the year with sunshine being one of the region´s most valuable commodities.
The Valencia region is a land of gunpowder and fire with many fiestas and proudly upheld traditions. Tourism is relatively new to the province and it is as though time has stood still in some of the inland areas and an opportunity to experience the 'real Spain', a far cry from the overdeveloped Costas.
Holding the America's Cup in 2007 certainly helped generate a lot of interest in the city of Valencia and what it has to offer. The next America's Cup will also be held in Valencia and there will now be an annual "Mediterranea Grand Prix" (Formula 1) held in port area. The city has world-class museums, including the stunning Ciudad de las Artes y Sciencias (designed by Santiago Calatrava), which includes Europe´s largest aquarium and the eye-catching opera house. There is also the world-renowned IVAM modern art museum and the Museo de Bellas Artes fine arts museum. The city is compact enough to mean all its attractions are within walking distance once you are there, so be sure to set aside at least a day to experience these. The city centre has many attractive palm-lined boulevards and beautiful historic buildings.
'Las Fallas' - a wonderful and wild fiesta that runs between 15 and 19 March. There are round-the-clock celebrations for the whole 4 days including street parties, world beating firework displays (day and night!), parades, open-air concerts and bullfights. Valencia considers itself the pyrotechnic capital of the world and this is when you find out why! The Fallas themselves are spectacular huge statues built by local artists on behalf of their local areas and displayed throughout the city centre. Just after midnight on the last day of Fallas the statues go up in flames.
Vilamarxant area
The local towns and villages all have regular fiestas, which are lively family affairs with colourful parades, lots of eating and drinking and the odd firework or two. Some of the local towns also have bull running events where you will see the bravest villagers running through cordoned off streets being chased by angry bulls...so, not for the faint-hearted! For something more civilised, there are the wine growing areas of Utiel and Requeña. Why not indulge in a wine tasting trip and perhaps purchase some of the fine local wines.
Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo - the race circuit is only a 10 minute drive from the villa and hosts various motor sports, including a round of the Moto GP, Superbikes, and Formula 1 testing.
'La Tomatina' - on the last or penultimate Wednesday in August, this is a frenzied but cheerful tomato-throwing festival that has gained a worldwide reputation.
The villa is in a quiet rural area and local activities include golf, walking, mountain-biking, fishing, horseriding, and even whitewater rafting. There are several local golf courses including El Bosque and the world-renowned El Saler. For those prepared to travel a little further, there are even a couple of ski stations within two hours drive (Javalambre and Valdelinares).

Guestbook
We'd seen your villa on the internet and the gardens and pool looked amazing. The reality more than met our expectations and our children had a fantastic time. We'd planned lots of day trips to keep them entertained, but they were more than happy to stay put! Would come again. Lucinda, Clapham, London
A lovely spot. This was our fifth visit (!) and we will continue to come, as we enjoy our stays so much. David and Diana, Church Eaton, Staffordshire.
Very relaxing week. Will recommend to friends and family, Bart, Debbie and children (Lichfield, Staffs)
Long walks by day and relaxing evenings in front of the log fire. What a wonderful retreat. Margaret, Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria.
