The Loire Valley / Cher region
Set in the centre of rural France there are many local markets, restaurants, shops and cafes to give you a real taste of French life.
Within the area there are many activities and interesting historical monuments, including canoening, fishing, water activities and a fabulous zoo, spectacular wineries and great cities for shopping.
Vierzon / Genouilly area
Vierzon lies in the heart of France in the province of Berry, at the confluence of the rivers Yèvre and Cher and on the Canal de Berry.
It is situated to the south of Paris, only one and three quarter-hours’ train journey away from the capital, and at the intersection of three motorways, the A10, A20 and A71.
Nearby are many picturesque castles on the river Loire, of which the royal hunting palace Le Château de Chambord is the largest, as well as other tourist attractions of the Loire Valley. South of the town are a number of vineyards and picturesque villages with Romanesque churches.
Genouilly is a rural village comprising of shops, bakers etc.
How to get there
Situated in the centre of the Loire Valley. Nearest airport is Tours, Ryan Air offer flights from the UK and Dublin direct. Ryanair, Jet2, Flybe are some of the budget airlines which all fly into Tours Airports. Car hire is available at the airport. Driving from the UK or Ireland the Le Havre (3h59),St Malo (4hr33)Calais (4hr54), Cherbourg (5hr34).
The nearest railway is only 23km, with frequent trains to Paris, the TGV also stops here and travels direct to CDG Airport. Car hire is also available at the station.
Because of its rural location a car is essential.
