The Lower Austria/Vienna region
Austria has a strong political and often violent history but is a country relatively unrivalled in the mix of opportunities is has to offer its visitors.
The Austrian Alps are awash with skiers and snowboarders in the winter months, whilst its cities attract visitors all year round to marvel at the many examples of fine architecture.
Vienna City area
Vienna is Austria's capital city and brimming with the finest examples of Austrian heritage, culture, art and architecture.
There are many Gothic building to absorb, elegant squares and historic streets to wander in as well as the culture filled Jewish quarter.
Vienna's main street alone is representative of its rich and royal past and yet more can be seen in the city's many museums. The composer Mozart spent 10 years here and Beethoven spent much of his life in Vienna. Hence music has always had much support and patronage. Music traditions, quality performances and a never ending cycle of musical festivals ensure that music remains a focal point for visitors and locals alike.
For the active ones there is much walking to be done in Wienerwald following trails and trekking. Or try out some watersports on the Danube. Both the Old and New Danube present opportunities for rowing, windsurfing and water skiing, whilst the New Danube has beaches to relax on both banks.
How to get there
Fly to Vienna with British Airways, Austrian Airlines, Britannia, Monarch amongst many others.
The apartment is about 40 minutes from the airport by train. Transfer from the airport to Wien-Nord "Praterstern" (Vienna North "Praterstern") station. From there you can take the tram 21, direction "Praterkai", go 3 stops, get off at "Messeplatz", from there you can walk.
