La Grande Merise is situated here in the beautiful unspoilt region of the Cotentin Peninsula only 45 minutes south from Cherbourg, in the small village of Gerville La Forêt about 5km from the bustling market town of La Haye du Puits, and 5 km from the abbey town of Lessay famous for its famous foire which has been going for over 900 years and only 1.5km to Vesly where you can buy smaller provisions, perfect for croissants and bread. World renowned for it's unspoilt, sandy beaches, our nearest beach is only 10km away.
Nestling on the sunny side of Mont Castre, our farmhouse consists of two gîtes made of cobb and stone that date back 300 years ago. It is marvelously peaceful here in the national park, where marshland, woods and coastal dunes burst with all sorts of birds and wild flowers flourish. La Grande Merise which is the larger of the two gîtes has been lovingly restored over the last four years and it is still a work in progress. It oozes simple rustic charm with cosy warmth and cleanliness. It's surrounded by a colourful organic garden overflowing with a mixture of wild and garden flowers, set amidst green fields and pastures. Perfect for barbecuing or enjoying a glass of wine by the pretty pond filled with fish and the occasional croaking frog. You can walk from the house or take one of our bicycles and cycle many of the lanes or along one of the many cycling tracks.
We wish you a very warm welcome to our Gîtes, La Merise and La Grande Merise and all animals are welcome, we've had everything from dogs, cats, fish and guinea pigs come and stay.
