About this location
The Dordogne region
The village of Verteillac is a small, pretty village just 10 minutes walk away. In the village you will find everything you need to enjoy your stay: a supermarket, bakery (open every day through the summer), butcher, 24 hr ATM, post office, newsagent, café bars, selection of restaurants including takeaway pizza, pharmacy, antique shop, tourist information office all set around a beautiful cobble stoned square and C.19th church. In addition, at the bottom of the track (just before you enter the village) is an outdoor pool, tennis courts, football pitch and leisure centre which we can advise guests on how to book.
Riberac is only 12km with a fantastic market on Friday and a greater variety of shops and supermarkets. Just south is Lac Jemaye a huge fresh water lake which you can swim in, a beach, pedalo hire and miles of nature walks.
The popular and picturesque tourist destinations of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (20km) and Brantome (30km) are within easy reach and recommended places to go and walk the cobbled streets.
The city of Angoulême is 43km. In September it plays host to the famous Circuit Des Remparts classic car race and in Jan/Feb the International Festival of Comics. It is a vibrant city with shops, restaurants, bars, a theatre, museums, gardens, a covered market, nightclub a stunning cathedral and great views of the surrounding area from the city walls.
Villebois-Lavalette (20km) is most famed for its impressive C.10th chateau. In addition is the C.17th market place and a beautiful C.19th fountain. You can take guided tours of the castle and its village.
Bourdeilles (20km) - The Chateau de Bourdeilles dominates the village skyline and has rich furnishings throughout. The chateau also has very traditional French style gardens.
La Rochefoucauld (53km) is a lovely town that boasts a stunning chateau. You can take tours inside and around the grounds and there's a very appetizing ice cream parlour nearby.

"Excellent - would do it again!"
We booked late and liked the look of the property on the website but the reality was even better. Le Texier suited us perfectly (2 adults and 3 children, aged 14, 12 and 10).
Highlights: the location (very peaceful but within easy walking distance of a lovely village), the layout, decor and general condition of the property, the swimming pool, the owners, the peaceful rural views in all directions and (I'm afraid to admit) the English TV channels, DVD and Playstation!
There were no obvious negatives, even though the weather was variable during our stay...
Thank you Michael and Carolyn - good job!

"Spacious, well-planned, clean, comfortable, good location, friendly and helpful owners"
It's great to arrive at a holiday home and find it spotlessly clean with fresh linen and inviting beds. All the bedrooms were a good size, so no one got the short straw. We just moved our stuff i… More

"Excellent, well furnished property near pretty village"
I stayed in the farmhouse for a week in August, along with my Wife and 2 children.Full of rustic charm, inside and out, the farmhouse was newly re-furbished to a very high standard with large, spacious rooms and excellent facilities. The pool was a good size with plenty of loungers and panoramic views of the French countryside. It was very peaceful. The village of Vertilliac was a 15 minute walk through the fields and offered several restaurants, baker, supermarket and coffee shop. We were pleasantly suprised by the variety on offer for such a small village. Le Texier was a great base to explore the Dordogne - day trips to Bergerac, St Jean de Cole and Brantome were particularly worthwhile. The owners, Carolyn and Michael, live in a separate property on site, and were very friendly whilst giving plenty of space. I would highly recommend this property.
