On the ground floor is a reception room with an old stone fireplace, tiled floor, settee and easy chairs and old curved staircase leading to the first floor. The tiled kitchen/diner is equipped with a gas cooker, fridge, microwave, and washing machine and a door leading to the garden. There is a bedroom with double bed on the first floor and a bathroom with shower, toilet, handbasin and bath. Further details outdoors:
There is ample room to romp around outside as the grounds extend to about 2.5 acres and the grass is mown regularly so that ball games (provided) are a pleasure for children - and adults too! There are a number of fruit trees behind the property and guests are welcome to pick the fruit when in season. There are also several walnut trees. The sloping fields adjacent to the property are a spectacular sight when the sunflowers are in full bloom.
The pool area is totally enclosed by a wall for privacy and security and can only be accessed through a door with two Suffolk latches at different heights. This safety device makes it impossible for small children to gain access by themselves. The pool has a stepped Roman end and is fitted with an alarm. A gazebo with a metal table and chairs on the raised terrace area provides shade. Alongside is an area with a fridge and a large stone BBQ for al fresco dining under a tiled roof.

Enquire nowThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The Aquitaine region is situated in south west France, the Dordogne being one of its departments. The region benefits from a mild climate enjoying many hours of sunshine which is so important in the production of wine for which the region is justifiably famous throughout the world.
The capital of the department is Perigueux, with its Roman remains, built alongside the river Isle. The old part of Perigueux near to the Cathedrale St. Front is a warren of narrow medieval streets lined with Renaissance mansions now trading as exclusive shops. It is this area that brass scallop shells are set into the streets to mark the route taken by the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostella.
Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord, lies in a bend of the river Dronne. It is very beautiful with a large ancient abbey standing at the side of the tranquil river. It is worth a gentle stroll round the town to get a feeling for the place or try a canoe or boat trip on the river. There are plenty of cafes and two extremely good (and pricey) restaurants.
Bergerac, the capital of what is known as Perigord Pourpre - because of the region's production of red wines - lies on the bank of the Dordogne river. It was once a flourishing port for the wine trade, the barrels being shipped down the river to Bordeaux in 'gabarres' , wooden sailing boats, which still ply up and down the river as leisure cruise boats for visitors to the area. Near to the river, the 'veielle ville' is an interesting part of the town, with many late medieval houses and a statue in honour of Cyrano de Bergerac. Red, white and rose wines are produced in large quantities in this area and the vineyards just south of the river are a sight to be seen. The majestic Renaissance chateau of Monbazillac on the hill looking down the gently declining slopes towards the town is famed for its sweet white wines and is well worth a visit.
Just outside the Dordogne but within easy reach is Aubeterre sur Dronne with its ancient galleried and turreted houses clinging to the hillside above the river. It is famous for the cavernous Eglise Monolithe carved out of the soft rock of the cliff face in the 12th century, with its rock hewn tombs older still. There is a dedicated marked trail round the village which is well worthwhile and cafes with tables in the shady square when you need refreshing. At the side of the main road below the village is a very good garden centre round the corner from the hotel. Aubeterre is one of France's prettiest villages.
The Verteillac area
Verteillac has benefited from a very recent face lift in the centre of the village and is about 10 minutes drive from the property. There is a busy bakery, a butcher, an amazing large general store, hairdresser, bank with cash machine, post office, pharmacy and a medical centre with an English speaking doctor. There is also a bar/bistro and a couple of restaurants.
Riberac is also about 10 minutes drive from the property and is a very busy small town with cafes, bar/bistros and restaurants. There are many small independent shops and two large and two smaller supermarkets where you can purchase almost anything. The colourful Friday market in Riberac is very famous and people come from miles around. It is a spectacle not to be missed - but go early as parking can be a problem.
Bertric Buree is a very small village nearby and its main claim to fame is a snail eating festival!
