Giving his name as Veronetta, his intention was to label in a negative way, the part of the river Adige that at the time was under the Austrian domain.

The North East Italy / Veneto region

Northeast Italy (Italian: Italia nord-orientale) is an informal cultural and geographic region of Italy and subregion of northern Italy. It is generally considered to be comprised of three Italian regions: Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The terms Tre Venezie or Triveneto (literally "Triple Veneto"), refers to the three regions of Veneto (before 1947 Venezia Euganea, united to Friuli) Trentino-South Tyrol (once Venezia Tridentina) and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Venetia was a region which indicated the old land of Venice Republic from river Adda to river Isonzo, and that is sometime used still today to indicate this territory together with Trentino and Trieste.

Verona area

Verona is one of the most ancient and beautiful Italian cities. In a perfect and strategic location, Verona has a pleasant climate, extremely well connected with the main other Italian and European cities, it is in fact also named as "Door of Italy".
Verona is rich with stunning backgrounds, and historical monuments.
One of the most important and famous monuments is the Roman Theatre, better known as The Arena, built approximately at the beginning of the I century a. C. Originally located outside the roman walls that determined the city, the theatre became part of the city only in the III century by the Emperor Gallieno, with the purpose of defending the city from attacks.
The Bra Square is the main and biggest square of Verona, one of the most astonishing of Italy, from a monumental point of view. It is possible to reach it from the main streets of the city centre, and also from two arches, which originally were part of the city walls of XIV century. On the side of the square, rises the Pentagona Tower, also of 300 periods. In the centre of the square, is located a garden with a monument in memory of Vittorio Emanuele II, King of Italy.
Another important monument is the Basilica of S. Zeno Maggiore, which is considered one of the best examples of the Romanic architecture.
As stunning background on a beautiful square, S. Zeno rises with a perfect harmony with a Romanic bell tower on one side and a tower of the old abbey on the other side.
Erbe Square is one of the most picturesque square of all Italy also defined as one of the most colourful place of Verona. The market located in the middle of the square expresses the bizarre and lively soul of the town, without looking away from the rich monuments all around the square.
The Maffei Palace, the Gardello Tower, the colourful Mazzanti House, the city hall and the Lamberti Tower defined as the highest tower of the town. In the centre of the square the Column of the Lios S. Marco and the Fountain of Madonna Verona.
The Scaligero Bridge is part of the Castelvecchio area: originally built as military structure, lately became a masterpiece of medieval period. A very suggestive bridge, in one of the most beautiful panorama of Verona, mainly made of bricks and based on three arches.
During the war, in 1945, the Scaligero Bridge, was highly damaged, but immediately rebuilt and repaired.
