Experience and enjoy France at its best in our beautifully restored holiday cottages set in 2 acres of picturesque French rolling countryside near the village of L'Absie in the Poitou Charente Region, one of the sunniest regions in France,second only to the South of France. Tucked away in the sheltered valley of our special little 'hameau' of 'Les Jinchères', we are surrounded by the peace, tranquillity and beauty of rural France, yet close to major towns, theme parks and seaside. We have croissants & baguettes delivered to your door during July & August.
Our quality gîtes are perfectly positioned, facing south with wonderful views over the beautiful countryside, woodland, lake and river.Approx. 23 miles west of historic Parthenay and 26 miles north of Niort. An ideal base for sightseeing, house-hunting or just relaxing. Close to the Atlantic coast, Futuroscope, Puy du Fou, Marais Poitevin, golf courses and Pescalis fishing complex. A great area for walking, horseriding, cycling, fishing, golfing and nature-watching. If you are not restricted by school holidays - come in June or September when the weather is still usually warm & sunny.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
We are within 30 minutes from both the lovely medieval town of Parthenay and the large town of Niort with its trendy and traditional shops and fascinating daily market, filled with a huge variety of fresh produce including seafood and patisserie.
The Futuroscope theme park at Poitiers and the historic, picturesque seaside resort and port of La Rochelle with its beautiful beach, many shops and variety of restaurants are just a short drive away.There is also the Marais Poitevin where you can hire a boat and spend the day meandering through the waterways and have lunch at one of the many good restaurants in the area.
For beach-lovers there are also the beautiful beaches at the seaside resorts of La Sable D'Olonne and La Tranche. Within 30 mins drive there is an excellent 18-hole golf course at Mazieres-en-Gatine, overlooked by a spectacular chateau.
You can also visit the exciting theme park of Puy du Fou which has a 'Hollywood style' outdoor gladiator and viking shows, falconry exhibitions and a spectacular outdoor 'sound & light' show in the evening. Locally, there are several 'plans d'eau' which have a large lake for swimming, usually with a man-made beach and waterslide and many activities such as pedaloes, watersports, crazy golf - something for all the family. For the fishermen/women, the fantastic Pescalis. Europe's premier fishing complex just 10 minutes drive away, which boasts more than 250 acres of lakes with carp up to 25 kilos!
Vernoux-en-Gatine area
'Les Glycines', at Les Jinchères, in the village of Vernoux-en-Gatine, is a typically Charentaise-style property set in a peaceful, sheltered valley, overlooking beautiful woodland and is surrounded by wildlife and farmland, some filled with glorious fields of sunflowers, apple orchards and vineyards. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of daily life.
We are situated in the heart of the beautiful French countryside, on the Vendée/Deux Sevres border, 50mins drive from Poitiers and 1hr 15 mins from La Rochelle and only a 3hr drive from St Malo. Just 10 mins away is the 'Forest of Adventure', crazy golf and an excellent go-kart track.
The local villages have bars, restaurants and shops just 4 km away and there are brand new supermarkets and an excellent wine 'cave' just 10-15 mins drive away.
The area is perfect for walking, cycling, horseriding, fishing, golfing, painting and there is a hard tennis court in the village. Why not just relax and enjoy the glorious sunshine and scenery with a glass or two of wine and some delicious fresh French bread and cheese?
How to get there
Ferries: The ports of Cherbourg, Le Havre and Roscoff (5hrs drive), Caen (4h15mins drive) and St Malo (3hrs drive) are well positioned for travelling to us from the UK with either Brittany Ferries (from Portsmouth, Poole or Plymouth) or LD lines (from Portsmouth or Newhaven to Le Havre). Trains: Book through Eurostar from London St Pancras to Poitiers, via Lille (easier than changing at Paris). Buses: National Express run a bus service from London to Poitiers. Flying: La Rochelle, Poitiers and Nantes airports are within 1h15mins drive from us and Angers and Rennes are 2hrs. Ryanair fly from Stansted to POITIERS and LA ROCHELLE or Dublin, East Midlands, Liverpool, Stansted and Shannon to NANTES. BA and Airfrance fly from Gatwick to NANTES. Flybe fly from Southampton to LA ROCHELLE or RENNES and Exeter to RENNES. Easyjet fly from Gatwick or Bristol to LA ROCHELLE and from Gatwick to NANTES. Jet2.com fly from Edinburgh & Leeds Bradford to LA ROCHELLE. Car hire: Avis, Eurocar etc have offices at the airports and within walking distances from the train stations.

Further details indoors: 'Les Petites Pierres' has received a prestigious 2 stars rating by the Deux Sevres 'Prefecture' authority.Our charmingly renovated circa 18th century 2 bedroom gîte is thoughtfully furnished to a high standard throughout. It has a 'typically French' feel with original oak beams and other features whilst offering modern facilities, including a well-equipped kitchen with gas cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave and washing machine. The shower room and toilet has an electric shaver socket and is situated on the ground floor. The comfortable, attractive, living/dining room has a solid oak fire surround and a woodburner which makes the gîte wonderfully warm and cosy during those chillier months. It is well furnished and includes a cd player and video/dvd player. There is no dishwasher in 'Les Petites Pierres'. Upstairs, there are 2 delightful bedrooms with comfy beds and both bedrooms have original oak beams and views over woodland at the front of the gîte. One has a double bed and the other, 2 twin beds. A 3rd bed can be added to accommodate 3 children in total, under the age of 8. You can enjoy your breakfast croissants, supplied by our local baker, at your patio table immediately outside the gîte, in your own private sun-trap. Also, at the front of the property you have a large garden terrace with woodland views for your exclusive use, equipped with patio table and chairs and a barbecue so that you can make the most of the sunny days and warm evenings, enjoying some good French food and fine wine, with just the relaxing sounds of the wild birds and the countryside. 'La Roche' has received an impressive 3 stars by the Deux Sevres 'Prefecture' authority. It is our beautifully renovated 4 bedroom gîte. Also, thoughtfully furnished to high standards and with comfort in mind. Downstairs there is a shower room with electric shaver socket, separate toilet and 2 pretty bedrooms, one double and one with twin beds. The hallway has the unusual and distinctive feature of the granite bedrock of the hillside forming part of the exterior wall. Upstairs there is a second shower room with toilet and 2 further bedrooms which feature original oak beams. The stunning wood-panelled double bedroom overlooks the woods and lake to the front of the property and the fourth bedroom with bunk beds is accessed via the double bedroom and overlooks the fields and trees at the rear of the property. Also upstairs, on the same level, is the spacious, open-plan, well-equipped kitchen area overlooking woods and fields to the rear of the gîte with the sitting room/dining area at the front, enjoying marvellous views over the nearby lake and surrounding country-side. 'La Roche' is well equipped with gas cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, cd player and dvd player. There is no wood-burner in 'La Roche'. From the living area, the patio doors lead you to your own private, fully equipped patio/barbecue area-great for relaxing in the evening sun with a bottle of wine and some good French food. This can also be accessed via your private entry at the side of the gîte.

Thank you for a lovely holiday. The gîte is really great, well equipped for everyone. Children enjoyed the playing field and pool. We had some lovely trips out.
