Beautifully situated between coast and mountain, at the foot of the Canigou mountain (the Catalan holy mountain), in a pretty thermal town, Vernet offers the ideal spot for walkers and mountain climbers. The apartment is situated in a villa occupied by its' owners, but with independent access and private courtyard with a great view overlooking the mountains. Just under the chateau and ancient church in the historic part of the town, it is a very quiet area - and the apartment is very secluded . The apartment is 30m2 and mostly newly decorated and in very good condition and newly furnished for 2012. There is one bedroom, a shower room with washing machine, living room/kitchen and a private courtyard with garden furniture and barbeque. We are also close to the lovely city of Perpignan and the Mediteranean coast and Spain.
For all stays of longer than a week, a change of sheets, towels and a clean is included in the price.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The Pyrenees-Orientales is the southernmost département in the 'Roussillon' part of the Languedoc-Roussillon region with Perpignan as its capital. It largely covers the old French Catalonia area, and Catalan is still spoken in the region (as well as French, of-course), and gives the area a strong identity. The landscape is very diverse, covering silver sandy coastlines and mountains, so one could be skiing in the morning and on the beach in the afternoon.
The Mediterranean climate is famously mild, but a little colder as one goes up into the mountains. There are ski resorts in the Pyrenees.
The region is full of history from all different periods, from prehistoric times through Roman, middle ages and Cathar. There are many Unesco World Heritage sites in the region.
Vernet-les-Bains is a beautiful mountain village situated at an altitude of 650 metres (about 2,000 feet) in the eastern Pyrenees of France. It is an ideal centre for visitors and holidaymakers.
The village of Vernet-les-Bains enjoys a wonderful climate (with, on average, 300 days of sunshine each year) and is set in a sheltered valley in the foothills of the Canigou mountain -which rises to a height of 2,785 metres (over 9,000 feet).
Tranquil and restful, Vernet-les-Bains has long been known for its hot water spring. A health centre in the village is located above this source and is specially equipped for the treatment of respiratory and rheumatic conditions.
Here the natural environment is a treasured asset. Officially designated as a "Centre for green tourism" Vernet-les-Bains is also proud to be the first "Village-Arboretum" in France. Over 1,500 trees are located within the village, with some 200 species having been identified and listed.
Vernet-les-Bains is an excellent centre for walkers. There are many possibilities for good walks in the Canigou massif, and in the Cady valley, where the village is located.
There is also a geological museum with a fine collection of specimens, including some remarkable crystals and marine fossils.
And, within close reach of Vernet-les-Bains, there are many other fascinating attractions : romanesque abbeys, picturesque villages and fortified towns, stunning limestone caverns, the famous "little yellow train", etc...
Vernet-les-Bains is enchanting: a village which is a delight to visit, whatever the time of the year and whatever your preferred pace of discovery.
Vernet-les-Bains offers you a warm welcome.
