About the home

Nos Vacances is located by the Cady River, just a few minutes stroll into the square of Vernet les Bains, where you will find shops and restaurants .The apartment is situated in the quiet and peaceful gardens of the main house, but is completely independent, with its own entrance and terrace. There are stunning views of the mountains and surrounding countryside. Larger towns of Prades and Perpignan are within easy access by car ,bus or train, as is the beautiful coastline, and the high peaks of the Pyrenees.

The Apartment is suitable for 2 adults, with the ability to be a double or two singles. It has a small, pretty terrace for dining and relaxing. The interior is modern and comfortable, with a lounge/dining kitchen, separate bedroom and en-suite shower room. All modern appliances are provided, to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Although the apartment does not have a washing machine, an arrangement can be made with the owners if laundry is required.

The apartment is situated within the grounds of the owners house. Parking is opposite, in a safe off road area. There is a large outdoor public swimming pool, and tennis courts just down the road in Vernet, open all summer.
This accommodation is perfect for a couple, or two friends, who want to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, abundant walks, without the need to drive.

There is welcome pack of basic food items on arrival, with some garden produce if available!
English speaking owners are on hand to answer any questions you may have.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

The Pyrenees Orientales is perfectly situated between the Mediterranean to the East, and the Pyrenees to the west, each offering a wealth of activities, such as walking, cycling, horse riding and of course, lazing on the beach!

This area is also a cultural centre, offering music festivals, art galleries, Abbeys and many other historic sites to visit. The Pablo Casals Music Festival in Prades is an event not to be missed in the Summer, and Perpignan hosts some wonderful Summer Evenings of music and street theatre.

The weather is typically warm and dry from April to October, with beautiful sunny days even in Winter! A visit to the coast is a must, and the picturesque harbour at Collioure is a gem not to be missed.
This area also has much to offer the Art Lover, as many famous Artists have had connections here, such as Picasso, Matisse, Macintosh, and Salvador Dali. Dali was born in Figueres, a Northern Spanish town just an hour's drive away, and there is a Museum dedicated to him there.

The Vernet les Bains area

Vernet Les Bains is a pretty spa town, nestling in the foothills of the Canigou. The Canigou is regarded as a sacred mountain, and it dominates the eastern fringe of the Pyrenees. Vernet hosts a memorable race on the first Sunday of August, when competitors run from the Village Square to the peak of the Canigou at 2785m and back, usually in 3hours!

Vernet is one of France's 'Villes Fleuris', and has a wonderful arboretum in the park, with many unusual tree specimens.

The Park plays host to another Vernet Festival in May, when the time of 'la Belle Epoque', from 1850 to the first world war, is celebrated in costume, theatre and song. Buildings of this time gone by, still exist. The Casino and the Hotel Portugal being the best examples, and well worth a visit.

Town life is typically French, with wonderful local produce markets on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with people gathering in the square to have coffee and chat. For other shopping, there is a small Ecomarche on the outskirts, and the usual Tabac, Presse, and Boulangerie in the centre of town.

There are many marked walks in the area, for all abilities, and also tennis, swimming and boules, in the recreational area. For those who like adventure, there are 4x4 trips up to the highest refuge on Canigou, from there you can walk to the summit!

Vernet is ideally situated for touring the area, and some of the places of interest are listed below, but of course, there are many more to discover yourself.
- Casteil Animal Park, 5mins drive from Vernet
- St Martin du Canigou, a beautiful 9th Century Abbey perched above Casteil
- Grottes de Canalettes, stunning caves to visit approx 10 min drive away.
- The Little Yellow Train, which winds its way up the Tet Valley from Villefranche, across ravines and over viaducts and bridges.
- Villefranche de Conflent, which is a wonderful example of a medieval walled town, just 10 mins away.
There is a very good Tourist Information Office in the square, which can provide you with all you need to know on how to have an enjoyable holiday!

Flights to Perpignan (France) and Girona in Spain with Ryanair/BMI Baby and Flybe. Car hire is available from both airports and journey time is 40mins from Perpignan, and 1hour 45 mins from Girona, aiming for the RN116 Andorra road, which brings you to Prades. Follow signs to Villefranche. Vernet les Bains is signposted form there There is a coach (Frogbus) available from Girona Airport to Perpignan Railway station, bookable online. There is a train connection from Perpignan to Villefranche, with a 15 min bus connection to Vernet. There is also a direct bus route from Perpignan to Vernet, for €1 !

“Idyllic surroundings, lovely, comfortable apartment, very welcoming hosts” Everything you need for a relaxing holiday, apartment attached to main house, very private, with our lovely hosts Hazel & Dennis available if needed, made us feel really welcome. The apartment was well stocked and very clean with quality linens. The area is beautiful plenty of walks in the area, nice village, lovely restaurants. Loads of places to visit in the area. Can't say enough other than we plan to stay again next year.
