Farmhouse complex that was totally restored in 1998 and transformed into 4 beautiful apartments with swimming pool on a hilltop not far from Lucca. The stone farmhouse sits at 600 meters altitude and offers views over the surrounding countryside with chestnut forests, and steep wooded mountains. Swimming pool, set in large panoramic gardens.

This hay-loft is separated from the main house and can be reached by a path to the left of the cottage that leads directly to the open gallery of this apartment. Since the path is a bit steep, we do not recommend this apartment to elderly persons. Instead, it is ideal for young couples on their honeymoon because it is separated from the rest of the cottage, and the open gallery offers a magnificent view of the century-old forests of the Apuan Alps. From the gallery one can access the living room. Also here there is beautiful fireplace and a bed couch. The dining table is close to a door that opens up to the terrace. In a corner created by the wooden staircase upwards, is a fully equipped kitchen. At the end of the stairs is a double bedroom, with a window door to the upper terrace, and a window where the original, typical windscreen bricks have been preserved. In the bedroom, a door leads to a small fully equipped bathroom. The apartment is genuinely beautiful with the old stones that appear here and there on the surface of the white walls.

The Tuscany / Lucca Province region
The rural enclave in northwest Tuscany known as the Garfagnana, has to be one of Italy's best-kept secrets. The Garfagnana is within reach of the Tuscan gems of Lucca, Pisa and Florence, but its appeal lies more in its isolation, its lack of tourism and its striking scenery. This area of outstanding natural beauty and matchless hospitality nestles between two distinct mountain ranges, the spectacular jagged ‘marble mountains’ of the Alpi Apuane and the rolling ‘spine of Italy’, the Apennines.
The Vergemoli / Calomini area
You can choose between two way of spending your holiday: to stay relaxed in the peace of the country or do a lot of activities as trekking, mountain bike, excursions in mountain, tours to caves or natural parks.
The local cuisine can be enjoyed at reasonable prices in the numerous restaurants of the area.
A visit to Lucca, the historical, walled main town of the province could be made in half a day.
Recommended full day trips include Pisa and Florence.

Fly to Pisa Airport then follow the road for Lucca.
From Lucca follow the road S.S. n°12 and pass towns of Diecimo (18 km) and Borgo a Mozzano (22 km). Continue up the valley until Gallicano. Then when you arrive in Gallicano, exit and follow signs to Molazzana. Once you have reached Molazzana follow the road signs for Brucciano and then for Calomini.

The Capanne is a unique place to stay and the Capanne 4 in particular. The combination of the wonderful view, the lovey surroudings, the beautiful pool and garden and, last but not least, the way David makes you feel at home is absolutely fantastic! |

Le Capanne4 is a converted farm property in the mountains, about 20minutes drive from Gallicano and felt pleasantly remote. It is comfortable, adequatey equiped and shares a pool with the other 3 appartments. It is a good base from which to explore the area either by car and/or on foot - Villages are often located on hilltops and the nearby mountains are remarkably scenic [and top 6,000 feet]. The owner [david Saisi] is very friendly and hospitable and clearly wishes to ensure guests enjoy their stay. He has considerable knowledge of the area and more than willing to advise about the local places of interest, which we, being new to the area, found very useful. The nearest local shops are either in Gallicano and some of the local villages but not the nearest village [Calamino]. We soon became accustomed to the very rural location and enjoyed our stay very much. |
