Farmhouse complex that was totally restored in 1998 and transformed into 4 beautiful apartments on a hilltop not far from Lucca. The stone farmhouse sits at 600 meters altitude and offers views over the surrounding countryside with chestnut forests, and steep wooded mountains. It is a little paradise from which one can hike all the mountain trails and visit the historical cities of central Tuscany. Gallicano with all facilities is at 10 kms, Lucca is at 50 kms, while Firenze and the seaside at Forte dei Marmi are an hour’s drive away. Worth a visit is also the famous cave called "Grotta del Vento", unique in its speleological majesty.
The property is well served by a local asphalt road and it is bordered by fence with gate that operates with electronic key and internal com system connected to each apartment. As the farmhouse is built into the side of a hill, it is articulated on various levels and has a series of furnished terraces, a stone barbecue, and lawns with an above ground swimmingpool that measures 5 X 10m sq. Each apartment has its own private furnished terrace space and totally independent entrance. These terraces are equipped with beautiful rustic tables and benches, providing perfect places to enjoy one’s meals while gazing at the panorama. Capanne 4 is in a separate barn.
The apartments are centrally heated and total gas consumption is to be paid extra during heating season together with firewood. The apartments are very comfortable and furnished with abundant use of wood, providing a cosy atmosphere of refined taste. The restoration was executed with great care in respect of typical Tuscan architectural style with woodbeamed ceilings, whitewashed walls and cotto floors. In some cases, original internal wooden ceilings were preserved, and where possible, the original stoneworks of the walls were restored and left in view. There are two baby cots available that should be reserved at time of booking, and there is a washingmachine for guest use. The apartments have satellite TV.

I'm a "guida ambientale escursionista" so I can organize a lots of activities. Every week we usuallly hike to Monte Croce, Monte Forato and Pania della Croce, the Queen of Alpi Apuane.
At about 5 km from Le Capanne there is an Adventure Park where I collaborate. Canoeing, canyoning and climbing are some of the activities you can try.
The Tuscany region
The rural enclave in northwest Tuscany known as the Garfagnana, has to be one of Italy's best-kept secrets. The Garfagnana is within reach of the Tuscan gems of Lucca, Pisa and Florence, but its appeal lies more in its isolation, its lack of tourism and its striking scenery. This area of outstanding natural beauty and matchless hospitality nestles between two distinct mountain ranges, the spectacular jagged ‘marble mountains’ of the Alpi Apuane and the rolling ‘spine of Italy’, the Apennines.
You can choose between two way of spending your holiday: to stay relaxed in the peace of the country or do a lot of activities as trekking, mountain bike, excursions in mountain, tours to caves or natural parks. Every week I organize trips at the stunning Alpi Apuane.
The local cuisine can be enjoyed at reasonable prices in the numerous restaurants of the area.
A visit to Lucca, the historical, walled main town of the province could be made in half a day.
Recommended full day trips include Pisa and Florence.

"warm & friendly - beautiful location"
A cosy little house set in spacious grounds with choice of places to "be" - either around the pool or on the grassy terraces with great views of the surrounding hills & mountains. Away from other people, quiet & peaceful. Davide is an attentive, informative, but unobtrusive host.

"Stunning location & so serene owned by a wonderful host !"
Must have a car & take time to soak in the amazing views. David will help you in any way to make your holiday special. Try the amazing cheap red wine from the Cafe in Vergemoli. Visit Barga & the beautiful cities of Lucca & Florence which is best visited by bus from Lucca. The cafes in Barga & Gallicano are both very reasonably priced for a tasty snack or icecream. Enjoy your stay in Tuscany.

"Magically restorative, beautiful and relaxing - the holiday of a lifetime"
It is difficult to find the words to do justice to this wonderful place. Le Capanne is the perfect getaway in the sun and mountains. We expected to want to spend most of our time at the tranquil and refreshing pool but we just couldn't help ourselves and had to explore the area. Garfagnana is beautiful and has a relaxed atmosphere. Once you get used to the narrow and windy mountain roads, it is well worth visiting the local villages for a taste of truly authentic and rural Tuscany. There are opportunities for hiking, visiting caves, eating out, watersports at the lake (which we didn't feel brave enough for), experiencing the local festivals, wine tasting, and generally being wowed by the local wildlife and breath-taking views of the mountains. Now, a whole new paragraph is needed to write about David, the host of Le Capanne. He was warm and welcoming from the start and gave us the perfect balance of space and privacy, whilst always being available for a friendly chat or to take us hiking up a mountain! He goes above and beyond for his guests and made us feel very special on our fabulous honeymoon. We stayed in Le Capanne 4, which was perfect for a couple. We couldn't have wished for a more romantic holiday, but we can tell it would also be great with a group of friends or family. We reluctantly write this review because we don't want everyone to know about this amazing place, but it's hardly fair to keep it a secret! We hope to return as soon as we possibly can, probably with a group of friends.

"Truly 'a get away from it all' location, beautiful!"
Capanne is set in the most beautiful location, if you want peace and quiet this is the place to stay. Although we visited Capanne mid October the weather was warm and we even ventured into the pool( very cold). I can imagine that the pool is one of the attractions for families staying here during the summer, You can relax by the pool looking out at the most stunning views of the surrounding mountains. David the owner is such a great host and very helpful. He very kindly met us in Gallicano to guide us up the mountain to Capannne even though it was quite late at night. I am sure we will return to Capanne again as we thoroughly enjoyed it. You will definitely need a car and the drive up the mountain from Gallicano takes 20 minutes to get to Capanne so if you want to be in a central location this is not for you but personally I think it's worth the drive up the mountain to stay in such a wonderful location.

"Idyllic Agriturismo in the Mountains with a great host"
Le Capanne was a very comfortable and beautiful retreat to come home to the week we spent hiking in the Alpi Apuane. Our two-bedroom/two-bath unit was spacious and comfortable, and a nice place to relax, whether indoors or on the terrace/patio. The pool and grounds are very well kept and lovely. The views from Le Capanne are stunning with mountains and little villages clinging to the mountainside. David was the perfect host who checked with us daily offering pizza, pastry, and local wine as well as ideas for hikes and other local activities. The six-course special meal he planned for us at a local restaurant was a culinary delight. We went on one of David’s guided hikes to the top of Monte Croce. He is a delightful guide and the tour even included a delicious late lunch at a small village restaurant. We highly recommend Le Capanne for independent travelers who enjoy activities or just relaxation.

"The accomodation, service and surroundings all get 10/10!!!!! Highly recommended!!!"
The accommodation was stunning, the area and view breathtaking and David was the best host anyone could ever ask for! The accommodation was clean, tasteful and had all amenities you could ever need. I would recommend this place to all as we had younger friends, families with kids as young a 5 and 1 years old and even our parents edging 70 and all loved the place. The swimming pool of course was a big hit and was regularly cleaned and a perfect temperature. All I can say is that I hope my review does not mean I miss out next year. Enjoy Andy
